My WoL started her own tribe by taking anyone she defeated and found attractive. Haven't thought up a name yet. I want it to start with "Vo" though.

Her Mael Squadron has a lots of women, so they went to the steppe and stole a bunch of men.

It's not an original tribe, but since all we know about the Haragin is the official blurb, I've come up with a ton of headcanon for them. Since they're a coastal tribe, I decided that fishing is their big thing, but they also have a tradition of storytelling that originated with telling outrageous, exaggerated stories about "the one that got away". Outsiders don't always understand their approach to truthfulness and how they distinguish between fiction and non-fiction, so they have a reputation for being liars. In my headcanon, this was a bit of a problem when my WoL encountered the Oronir in particular.

Their own origin story is that after Azim and Nhaama agreed to leave the earth to their children, Nhaama went east, where she encountered the Sea. She was entranced, and eventually Nhaama and the Sea had children, who were the Haragin. Because the Moon is changeable, she eventually returned to the heavens, but sometimes she flirts with the Sea, causing the motion of the tides.

Whenever possible, Haragin women have water births, and when a member of the tribe dies, their bodies are wrapped in oil-soaked shrouds, placed in the water, and cremated, so that their physical remains return to the sea, and their souls are freed to join the Eternal Sea, which is what they call the Lifestream. The Haragin do believe in reincarnation, but unlike the Dotharl, they don't think it necessarily happens right away, or that the soul is reincarnated into the same tribe.

I love the 51 scales! The Haragin picture is my headcanon for my WoL as a little boy, right down to the dark skin and the backwards horn shape.

I've done the same thing with my tribe, the Meirqid. They're a desert tribe that doesn't lug all their stuff with them, but instead buries it in lots of hidden caches all over the desert and then travels between the caches. I headcannoned that they keep the caches hidden and safe with a bunch of arcane wards. They tend to be really good at navigating via the stars and know where just about everything in the Nhaama desert is. Because of this, they have a reputation of given people they don't like wrong directions so they end up dying in the desert from lack of water or food. They're also considered a bad tribe to capture people from since it's very difficult to get the Meirqid lost. Most of them know where they are relative to the Nhaama Desert all the time and have a very good idea of how long it will take them to get to their nearest supply cache (yes, they have some in the Steepe, mountains, etc.). This leads to the Meirqid preferring to escape from other tribes over anything else since if they do get away, the odds of them dying to stuff like thirst and hunger isn't very high.

The story of the beginning of their tribe goes back to when Nhaama fled into the desert from Azim. They maintain that she gave them her (star) map of where she went and how she got away from Azim. They've been retracing her route ever since. Since the Meirqid are a desert tribe, they don't like Azim that much. For them, he's the main reason the desert is so hot that nothing grows in it. While they might not shun the sun like the Kagon do (a desert tribe that hates Azim), they do tend to do a lot of things at twilight/night/dawn when the desert isn't as hot.

Because of this, the Meirqid value strategy, resource management and survival as much (sometimes more then) they do combat prowess. Winning a battle isn't seen as being a good thing if it makes their survival after the battle harder then it would be if they never had a battle at all. This causes them (and other desert tribes to be honest) to be seen as weak by a lot of the Steppe tribes that have more overall resources at hand. The Meirqid's response to this is that the Steppe Tribes are more then welcome to ambush them in the desert. If they can can even find the Meirqid in the desert that is. Instead of herding sheep or dzo, the Mierqid herd gembucks (gemsboks). It's a large real-life antelope that lives in a desert environment and requires very little water. Although since this is a final fantasy game... their large horns are made out of actual gems. And yes, gemsboks do use those horns to defend their young and attack things that threaten them...
