Hey, a thread about the ridiculous TT card drop rates got bumped, that’s good, brings more awareness to how god awful the system is.

    I’m gonna copy and paste one of my older comments below to give my opinion on TT cards and why they suck, some of it may sound a bit out of place but the point I make can be well understood;

I don’t know how into triple triad you are but you seem to be new, so let me say this about NPC decks and why this method of getting cards is flawed. I apologize if you’ve just come to vent about how absurd some of these NPC’s are.

NPC’s don’t follow normal rules, after reaching 60 cards you can only have a one 4 or 5 star card in your deck at a time, with as many 3 star cards as you want. But NPC’s can have as many 4 or 5 star cards in their deck as the devs want. So you’ll get ridiculous NPC’s like the Serpent Commander who have good tier decks with accompanying rules that are better for them then player.

Why do they do this? Likely to keep people invested in triple triad by having them farm for over 8 bloody hours on some cards, (not my experience but I’ve read horror stories of some people farming for ridiculous hours such as those and I 100% believe some cards could take 8 hours to get) but the thing is that’s not fun and thusly is not gonna keep tons of people invested. There will inevitably be some who go through those ridiculous crimes but most (such as myself) will just stop playing outside of PC matches and the occasional NPC match. And this grinding is especially bad because you gain almost nothing as a reward, see, the reason why grinding in previous FF games and in similar JRPG’s was fun is because your stats are constantly improving with the grind, getting you closer every hour to a perfect party, On getting triple triad cards, all you get is a extremely low amount of MGP and maybe a duplicate card that you can sell for around 500 and that absolutely is not enough to make the grind tolerable because your time is wasted by playing triple triad over and over and over again, and it gets boring facing the same NPC with the same deck for hours on end with little to nothing in the way of a reward.

I have ever triple triad card atm, I don't think NPCs need a rate increase because it's 41seconds on average to play an NPC and they're best played against when you are waiting on qued content.

I also do not think trials need an increase, as they will reliably drop Ex trials in 10-15 runs. The one exception being Thordan who takes an unreal dedication to obtain.

Square has taken our critism of cards locked behind Heaven on High and Eurika by giving us an NPC to play to earn those cards for that content.

However, dungeons are an area where the rate can most certainly be improved. It is somewhat frustrating to dedicate 30-40 minutes per run to be not given a drop. When there's a larger time investment the normal NPC drop % rules shouldn't apply.

Adjustments I'd personally like to see are 4* card deck allotments and nee catd varients like job cards and locales. I'm bored with the game atm with no cards to earn

It should be obvious by now to SE that their calculation hasn't panned out. The low odds on card drops may cause determined collectors to spend more time, but it reduces the population of collectors drastically. They just had to change how BLU drop rates worked over this, yeah low odds are "staying power" but few people actually want to go through that. No reason why they shouldn't let up on TT drop rates too.

That's only one reason TT isn't as popular as it should be (seriously, this is a game full of FF fans, we love Triple Triad why isn't it a thing half the players are doing?) - they also need to change deckbuilding rules; making it a star "budget", i.e. 17 or 18 or etc. stars total, would be the best imo since it makes all star values possibly relevant. As-is the double-8s meta gets pretty dull, if there were more room for creativity you might actual have people play pickup games to try out decks.

Third they need to change up the tourney formats from the four that have been running forever, and maybe consider a unique prize besides more cards to get people in and playing against other players rather than NPC farming.

You should never discard your extras. You can bring them to the Gold Saucer and exchange the cards for MGP. Therefore, by extension of this, that means there are already rewards for the cards you don't need.

yesterday: 34 wins, 23 ties and 11 losses. All against one NPC (at Kugane's docks). No drops. Almost 1 hour playing the TT for nothing.

Is that normal? Do you guys have similar boring moments trying to get a card? '-'

This was my first time against that NPC. Is she that hard to drop her card normaly? If so, then that would be a hella of a card to give us some worth of the time...

EDIT: after another 1 hour and a half I finaly get the card from her. I had similar struggles after with a lot others NPCs. I guess that's intentional to make us lose subscription time in a mini game inside game. That's awfully designed, but we play it neverthless :P (I like the TT card game, so I cover the big frustations listening to music while I try - hard - to drop a card).

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels like this system needs a change. Replying to some of your comments in general:

TT is a fun mini-game but it's not fun to duel the same NPC that plays the same cards with the same pattern for 1, 2 or more hours, and some cards are exclusive from a specific NPC with no other content related. For some people those 2 hours are all the time they have to play each day, making it impossible for lots of people to spend the time collecting cards for a mini-game they probably really like actually.

I hope a change to the system happens soon and brings more players to try and spend more time with TT.

I have almost every card now, and I will say that I 100% agree that this system sucks and the drop rates are far too low.

FF8 is my all time favorite and i loved triple triad in that game. Now Square is trying hard to make me hate this mini-game. The system is stupid, i don't wanna spend hours trying to get a card from 1 dude i can win endless streaks against.

If you are worried about people farming rare cards and selling them for tokens, just implement a system like this:

You play, you win, you get the card.
After you get the card make that damn drop rate abysmal, NOT AT THE START.

I only care about collecting cards not turning them into currency, i'm sure all the people that hate this current system thinks similar. Registered to forum just to bump this, i love this game but i hate this TT system.

    There, rant over.

I just made this account because I want to add my voice to the TT frustration regarding the drop. Also, I would like to add the following suggestion: why couldn't we make customs deck with as much 4-5 stars as we want. I mean, we won those cards, might as well use them. Furthermore, some NPCs do have deck built this way, why couldn't we? It could be a earned reward like it is currently to get more 3 stars in your deck.
