Buying a Laptop specically for FFXIV, need advice.

    Hello there! I started playing FFXIV a few months back, and decided that I'm here to stay so I wanted to upgrade my existing laptop from a few years ago;

    https://www.amazon.com/Asus-Q504UA-B...productDetails

    Intel i5 7th gen 2.3 GHz (quad)
    12 GB RAM
    Intel HD Graphics 520

... to something a bit beefier. I play on mid-to near max settings in most cases but I notice in bigger places like Ul'dah or out farming, I get some slowdown and input lag so I want to omit that. I want to run at a smooth 60fps at max settings if possible, but here's the hard part, I can't afford to spend more than 1100.00 on this upgrade and would prefer a bit on the lower side of that as I got this for around 800$ brand new and it does REALLY well for what it is.

Where do I start? I have read great reviews of the ASUS ROG series, but they get up there to 2k+ in price.

Does anyone else have any recommendations that will stay in my price range? I also need to consider the upcoming Shadowbringers expansion, so future proofing is important and getting the most I can for the buck.

I don't care how heavy it is, it just has to be portable, which makes buying a desktop out of the question and impractical for me.

Feel like the 1060 isn't going to allow for much in this case, being an older graphics card. People were recommending 1060 minimally last year, and with SB coming out, I think I'd like to spring extra for a card that will hold up to that.

People who were recommending 1060 at minimum last year dont know what they are talking about.1060 should be fine and SE said with new expansion they arent upping the system requirements this time round.
If you're not sure there should be benchmark scores somewhere online for 1060 on this game.
It really depends on what fps expectations you have. You should be able to get 60 fps or higher fine and contrary to belief most people cant notice the difference between anything higher anyway.

That's rather misleading. There is a noticeable difference the higher the framerate climbs, especially when it comes to viewing motion (motion blur drops more and more as fps climbs); this is why a lot of people who play very active games (FPS shooters, etc.) get high refresh rate monitors and play with settings turned down to low to get the best framerates possible. There are diminishing returns, admittedly, and it's all dependent on your monitor's refresh rate going higher than 60hz, but it's inaccurate to say you can't tell the difference.

Your comments about the 1060, however, are correct. Laptop and desktop GTX 1060s are fairly similar in terms of graphical capability, though laptop ones don't scale as high due to worse cooling solutions, and a 1060 is more than enough to hit 60fps even at max settings; I have one in my desktop, and I'm usually hitting 70fps when everything's blowing up on screen and closer to 100fps elsewhere.

OP, I don't have explicit recommendations for a good laptop (I mostly use mine for schoolwork now, with all of my gaming being done on my desktop for the most part), but I'd recommend looking for something with a GTX 1050ti/1060 and a solid quad-core processor or better. If it's advertised as having an Intel i5 CPU, make sure it's quad-core - some older gen i5s are actually just dual core CPUs with hyperthreading, and that isn't as good as a proper quad-core. An SSD and 16GB of RAM would also be nice, but you could probably survive with 8 GB and no SSD (though if you can squeeze it in, get an SSD - it helps tremendously).

Edit; I misread the OP and thought what was linked was what you were going to purchase. I apologise for the mix-up. I still wouldn't really recommend a laptop for gaming purposes though.

Edit 2; I'm a dumb-ass who -really- cannot read without their glasses. Removed desktop PC link to replace with; https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CTHLX8C...d_i=8588812011

    First question
Do you really need a laptop?

For that kind of money you will get a desktop with 24 inch monitor screen, on which you could play any game you want in over 60 fps without bending over to see details on the laptop. Why sacrifice your own comfort for a device you probably barely ever move around to play the game.

Yes, really need a laptop. I'm a very mobile person, travel a lot and do stuff outside of the home so my laptop goes everywhere I go, and I like my games mobile as well. Non-mobile is not an option.
