    personal 5.0 prediction

to me the the voice in the "throw open the gates" visions sounds like Arbert, the WoD leader. so with this, the speech itself, the reveal of Minfilia, and the fact that the monsters we see in the trailer appear light aspected and angelic, i came up with my own theory.you and the scions are being pulled to world 1, where the WoD came from, to help literally throw open the gates between the worlds. doing this would weaken the ascians while rejuvenating Hydaelyn, as well as draining excess light energy from world 1 stopping it from turning into a void. i dot think well go there immediately at the start of 5.0 but maby after starting a few more rebellions in the Empire, exploring a bit of the northern Continent .etc, we'll finally get pulled into the other realm.

The echoing voice began after the events in the House of the Crooked Coin, following which an auri NPC remarked that she now sensed a sliver of darkness in you.

It nearly always appears when the looming conflict is the focus of discussion, and remember it is referring to a twin doom. Why a twin doom? A possible reason is that this light absorption by Minfilia is not working out as expected and is flooding the Source with excess Light, in addition to any current imbalance it has. I also think Solus is considering going there to wreak some havoc with the Black Rose, to tilt it back towards darkness, but IMO it'll be too little, too late.

The voice doesn't even sound like Arbert in other language versions and the speaker may be using his voice simply because it is familiar to the WoL.

If it were all this simple, why the transition to the WoD? How would one even sustain such a transition whilst retaining the Blessing of Light (meaning your actions are pushing the balance to the light)? One option would be to drop it and engage in actions which spread darkness, like Arbert did... you'd also be a lot less effective without the Blessing. Another is that the Blessing of Darkness is bestowed upon you by the entity capable of conferring it - Zodiark. With that said, I do think world hopping appears to be in the cards, particularly to the First.

My own thinking is that the Crystals have to be rejoined to abate the prospect of constant, recurring floods. Only, that the Ascian way (and the way everyone else also thinks this must occur) is not the only one. Additionally, given how they've teased Dalmasca in Orbonne, it's likely it will be a major region we're headed to. I think they're saving most of Ilsabard for later on, perhaps 6.0; the Garlean war will probably be a dominant theme early on, especially as we aid in Dalmasca's liberation, but the twin dooms will overtake it fast. I've put down my thoughts on the main plot points here.

The mystery figure on the right of the expansion (which looks like a highly corrupted G'raha) cover may be the key to how this is all going to play out, and may link to the echoing voice in some way.
