    Belias, the inspiration for Ifrit?

-He's a ram (Ifrit is some kind of goat/lion thing
    -He uses Eruption
    -He uses Crimson Cyclone
    -He uses Inferno
    -He uses nails

Belias, the Gigas: Step into the inferno! Step into my hellfire!
Belias, the Gigas: Are you not yet ash and bone!?
Belias, the Gigas: That your wrath...might eclipse mine...

The Amalj'aa have a Brotherhood of Ash, and when you fight Ifrit, there's a Solar Eclipse.

Can't be TOO much of a stretch...

Its a serious stretch to where its not true. Ifrit first appeared in final fantasy 3. Belias his model entirely came from ff12. The pure history of Ifrit tells it all.

I mean, in real life we know it's not true, but in the world of Hydaelin (which I'm sure's what OP is refering to), it may hold some ground. Especially as we know that Belias was an Elder Primal before his appearance in RtI, and Belias-Egi was a beefed-up Ifrit-Egi.

So, in my opinion, maybe not originally but could be added later on as a "Sure, why not?"

    It's a very tenuous argument.

Regardless of truth it's a retcon (RtI was almost certainly not planned during 2.0 when the SMN 50 quest was first available), so I wouldn't read too much into it. That said Ifrit isn't a goat/lion thing... he's kind of a demonic reptile (in this game at least).

But they gave him all of Ifrit's moves. I wonder if he somehow became the original myth of Ifrit, similar to how some other Primals were misinterpreted beings/legends of ages past. Like it was hinted that the Allag built Ultima Weapon based on the legend of Ultima, the High Seraph, and Shinryu was based on Midgardsrmr. Some have postulated that Thunder God Cid was what inspired the Sylphan primal of a Ramuj, given he is clearly the appearance of a man and Sylphs are nothing like that. There's a common them of beast men taking inspiration from legends to form primals, but names and appearances change over time as legends get warped.

While the rest of it might hold, those quotes are definitely too much of a stretch. Ash is associated with any fire, and using the word 'eclipse' (figuratively "surpass") in the middle of a sentence doesn't instantly link him to another being that happens to be associated with a solar eclipse.

If the connection is intended, then it might be clever wordplay, but it's too flimsy to be used as proof of the connection in the first place.

Ramuh does, however, strongly resemble a Duskwight Elezen, and they are native to that part of the world.

If the sylphs' image of Ramuh had a human inspiration, I would be much more inclined to imagine it being an Elezen mage who befriended the sylphs, than a Hyur* who (to our knowledge) lived two continents away.

    * well, apparently proto-Hyur-Garlean-something, pending any future revelations about the Garleans, but looking like a Hyur with normal human skin colour and rounded ears.

On a side note about Belias itself (and not being familiar with any previous iterations of it), has anyone else noticed that it seems to have a smaller version of itself merged into its chest? I only noticed the other day during the Orbonne raid, and it's thoroughly unsettling.

Yes, it's part of Belias' whole thing. The gods created him, deemed him too ugly, then cast him away, giving him the name "The Gigas", it's supposed to be unsettling.
