Thank you for posting in the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Forums,

Has this game crashed on Direct X9? If you have not done so already, try switching to DirectX 9 by selecting the ‘Config’ button on the launcher.

Were any changes such as updates made to the PC?

    Hope to see you online!

I have tried both Direct X 9.0 and Direct X 11.0 on the launch window. Both prompt the pop up like normal, then the black screen. Usually by this time, I'd see the current Square-enix logo, a few other logos, and then the stormblood launch screen. I don't even make it past the black screen. Once the black screen pops up, it gives a few seconds before automatically showing the error mentioned above.

The only update that was made before then, or during that time was the security essentials download. Otherwise, all other drivers had been updated before the patch update when this started happening. I had tried rebooting my PC at the time, since it couldn't really hurt to consider trying it, and still had the same issue pop up with the same crash message.
