What we should really be talking about, is the primal versions in crafting we'll be most likely getting. Cause nothing says bad*ss like Ifrit's inferno wrapped around a gun blade. Or Nidhoggs vengeance wrapped around in the dark purple tinted aura O_O

Uuuuh.... It's already in the game. It's a PLD weapon from the Lightning Returns event years ago. You can buy it on the mogstation if you missed it.

It's already in game but as a Gladiator weapon. It could another one of her cool gunblades to work for GBK, for example the Axis Blade.

Also, no way, FFVIII gunblades are actually a "viable" weapon so to speak, as they are used melee exclusively, the gunblades don't really fire at range too much, that is something exclusive of XIIIs. Gunblades use charges that make the blade vibrate and also, if used at the precise moment, torn appart and weaken the "armor" of the target. Is kinda like HESH ammunition used at melee range. (HESH = High Explosive Squashing Head), is ammo used to "weaken armor" through high temperatures and surface of impact and allow for further "penetration" of said armor in the compromised area, also it causes a phenomenon called "Splintering" where the inner parts of armor get fragmented and begin turn everything inside into mincemeat as small fragments of various compounds fly around the space inside the armor at supersonic speeds.

It's probably what the Gunblade kinda does with all its "vibrance" stuff.

I was going to post this pic as well. Some of us actually prefer smaller weapons that make more practical sense to wield, even if they are impractical to begin with as is the case with most fantasy swords. This is how I am with my DRK and I typically prefer smaller swords such as Balmung or Cronus for my 110lb Midlander.

I will definitely be taking up the Gunblade come 5.0, and I am hoping for really cool looking smaller blades like Lightning's so it doesn't look like I am more likely to hurt myself than my opponent.

I'd be willing to bet all my gil that if gunblade size gets increased, the tank mount debuted for Gunbreaker will be a Hummer with the description line saying "no, you're not compensating for anything".

If anything, it looks like it's just a bit bigger than a Machinist firearm and the blade length about the size of some of the bigger Paladin swords, which doesn't seem too bad.
