Inventory searching. Awful.

So, I want to find some items in my inventory, and just learned how to search, and..
FFXIV:
Type Enter. /itemsearch "item name"
Result: A list of items found that match.
Click the item in the chat list, select "Search For Item"
Result: A list of locations and how many of the item are in each.
Now, you have to open that location and mouse through it's contents to find the item..

WoW:
Open the bag / bank (or both)
Type the item name in the search box
Result: Matching items are highlighted by disappearing everything else. One easy step.

FFXIVs item search is more to find which of the many inventory partitions an item is in, rather than the precise location within any of those inventories.
Considering this game has dozens of tiny inventories instead of one big one.

If you need to find something within an inventory, you just... look at that inventory, it's not so big you cant find it by glancing at it for a couple of seconds.
You can sort the inventory to make that easier.

To be fair it also tells you which tab of the inventory it's in.

WoW doesn't have as many places to search for items as XIV does, so while I do wish it would be highlighted if you do happen to have the place it's in open, that system isn't going to help me much if the item I'm looking for is on my retainer (and in WoW it won't help if it's in Void Storage).

I just want a way to get rid of that stupid search results window. Nobody asked for this.

That doesn't make it terrible.

I need to have my UI set with a fairly large font size (playing on PS4 with a smallish TV and reading from a few metres away). I'd need to open up the expanded view of the text log to actually read the search results, and that takes several button presses to get there. With the dedicated search results window, it comes up automatically, highlights the important information in orange, and closes with one button press.

Making it optional would be good, but it's not just annoying and inconvenient for everyone.

Yes, but for some reason SE is allergic to giving us more UI options. It's completely redundant for me as a PC player and something else I need to click away every time I'm managing my things. This game is far too clicky as it is, and some UI improvements/options would go a long way towards fixing that while still allowing PS4 players to navigate the menus easily.
