How would dwarfs be offensive but even if they could be thats not a new thing i mean you got 2 tribes of au ra that are pretty much sexist and its fine lol

I have no issue with most lalafell jokes. Just the ones that take it too far beyond humor. They're just eaten by everything and the community likes calling them popotoes...but props to the game treating them with the respect most average adults take for granted.
That said, Final Fantasy dwarves tend to look more like goblins than the traditional Tolkien depiction, so other than their connection to the earth (in most cases) and their shortened stature, I think the biggest danger is just going to be Koji's propensity for memes in the localization...which we can always shout at him for on the forumsHe does not have a history of writing offensive jokes, unless you're offended by puns.
btw I'm betting the dwarves will probably be taller than lalafells.
I really appreciate everyone's maturity on this, and want to thank everyone for being kinder. I feel like I have actually been heard today, and to be honest I expected the worst on these forums.

If I remember correctly, the Dwarven race's use in the Final Fantasy Franchise has usually been either that of great racial pride and their propensity for gem and metal work. They are usually great builders. I don't remember ever seeing any kind of derogatory language used against them unless it was by/from Elves (since they tend to not like each other in some games ... thank you Tolkien). I don't think you will have anything to worry about, if there is any kind of language used I feel it would be used by them for them in more of a teasing manner and not as a way to be malicious.

They were a respected race, super friendly and imho, one of the best races in the FF series. I always looked forward to the part of the game where we visit themI do not recall any derogatory remarks or jokes made about them, it was just typical silly bickering between themselves if anything.

I've been wanting to see Mt. Gulg for a while now!
Do we have a design for them yet even? I remember in FFIX they were comparable size to the rest of the cast, but admittedly that game played with proportions pretty loosely. I think they're only a head or so under the adults in FFIV as well. Anyway, I have no reason to expect they won't be extremely fantastical with entire beard bodies or faceless helmets like they have been prior. If this is an issue that is close to your heart I imagine at this point you shouldn't have much to fear, although more information will tell.

When i see a dwarf in games being played i also assume the player is drunk the entire time lol

They were namedropped back during NA FanFest, but no art as of yet.RALLY HO!

Fantasy styled Dwarves, and FF styled Dwarves also included here, are just short humans with stout bellies and big beards. They don't have any discernable features of Dwarfism from real life.
If anything, I think their voice lines (if there will be any) will cause more of an unrest with the Scottish audience than with folks with Dwarfism. I've a few Scot friends that absolutely hate and revile how badly Dwarves sound in some MMO's/games/movies.
RALLY HO AND CARRY ON!

For what it's worth, my sense is that SE is going to be pretty good also about visually differentiating dwarves in the fantasy sense from people with dwarfism.
