[Rant] About Japan's Lawson Fat Black Chocobo Campaign

Hello everyone, I'm from Spain and therefore I have an EU account, but now I live and work in Japan, and even play in a Japanese server. I found about the Lawson's Fat Black Chocobo Campaign and got enough points to get a code, but color me surprised when I found out I can't use it because my account is not Japanese.

I went to the campaign site, read everything and in the middle of a wall of text there it was: "Only people with a 'JAPANESE' account can redeem the codes."

I am extremely disappointed with this decision. I guess it could even be considered kinda racist? At least it's discriminatory.

I mean, there wouldn't be any problem if only characters in the Japanese data center could redeem the code, and that by redeeming it you wouldn't be able to switch from data centers for like 6 months. This is just a random thing that came to me while writing this and it's a 100 times better than this dirty move.

Hell, I and my PC found this so bullshitty that while I was playing the game, the sound and the image stuttered, crashed and the PC blacked out and restarted itself. That's how nonsensical this shit is.

I'll think about what to do with the code, because there's absolutely no way they'll let me redeem it.

I can kind of understand why they do this- I would assume it's stop people in Japan from buying a lot of the promotional item and then reselling the codes to players in different regions.

Likely laws in place in countries.

Your EU account is tied to EU laws, while JPN accounts are tied to those laws.

Its a giveaway, they always have to respect each respective regions laws in regards to these.

This is pretty normal, plenty of companies have promotional events which may be restricted to certain regions or countries, it doesn't mean they are descrimating or being racist towards those who can't take advantage of it.

Nothing new. Quebec was excluded from a GW2's sweepstake because Arenanet didn't want to deal with its stringent rules regarding contests.

Why spend time and money to conform with the shenanigan laws of a region when you can just exclude it and dodge it altogether?

That's the world of business. Not all business practices strictly revolve around the consumers. Sometimes they have to deal with a bunch of different colored tapes just so they can finally get an approval to sell something somewhere and sometimes, that "somewhere" you live in just doesn't make the cut.
