I don't think it's really been discussed here yet in light of everything else that was happening in the trailer, but where exactly is this? Why do I feel like Y'shtola just burned down Gridania with her fancy black mage powers?

Naoki Yoshida said that's in the Rak'tika Greatwood (new location).
Greetings and salutations, adventurers.

The picture of the area they showed didn't look burnt to a crisp either so it might raise a question about how long it recovers or if the fire stops after that scene or is just a small fire.
It does actually. The buildings are burnt down (and the fires have long since gone out). Yoshida specifically pointed out that when you arrive at that area, it's only after the scene with Urianger and Y'shtola already happened.
Exactly the forest doesn't look like the scene of a forest fire a few days ago, it looks like it has regrown a bit.
Have you heard the Greatwood's music yet? It's lit. That's why everything's on fire.
