Well, they did 30 for AST/MCH/DRK because our level cap used to be 60, then they made RDM/SAM 50 because our cap was 70, and now the starting point is 60 because our level cap is 80.

I do get it. If you think about it, if they put us half-way down like they did for the first class additions, we'd be starting all the way back in ARR content for levelling (granted, there is potd now). By starting us off 20 levels behind cap, we're only one (or two depending on how you look at it) expansion(s) behind in terms of levelling. Yeah, it'll be Hell and we'll have issues of newb tanks again, but they'll learn. Eventually. Strap on your helmets cuz it'll be a bumpy ride! /Contributes to newb tanking lol

I won't be coming back to FFXIV's forums. The forum vibe is way too venomous and brings out the worst in me. I don't like who I am on the forums, so it's best to distance myself.

The thought of giving a player who has never ever tanked a free lvl 60 tank is a really grim.
Its going to be hell for new players who get stuck with them while trying to progress in duty finder and we'll likely see a lot of ping pong agro between dps on jobs they already know how to play and the scrub Gunbreaker hitting random buttons.

It's going to be like what happenee with Dark but 100 times worse.

They should have Gunbreaker starting level at level 30.People need to learn how to tank.Dont throw them in the deep end.
Totally agree, 60 is too high, 30 is ideal so new players to tanking need to learn, but i think it should start at 50 at least.

what about older tank players should we slog through 40-20 levels because of beginners?

Wrong. There is absolutely nothing complex about 'Turn on enmity stance, push ranged pull ability, and depending on the situation: press an AOE or start doing your combo'. And pressing your cooldowns appropriately shouldn't be a skill, but going off of some of the tanks I've healed, it sure fucking is. Sixty is just fine. You learn nothing from starting at a lower level arbitrarily from any other role.

You can easily learn the basics of tanking by watching other people tank.

As you will likely need a class to 60 to unlock them, wouldn't make sense for them to let you skip 10 levels by switching to GNB or DNC. You will have seen more than enough people tanking and will have an idea on what to do and what not to do.

And if you go do further story as GNB, by the time you get to your first trial as a GNB at 63 (73 if you've done SB), you should have some experience tanking.

If you don't want to have to deal with new tanks, then use the trust system - that's what it's there for. Besides, anyone in their right mind that wants to switch roles pre xpack would be levelling another tank in the mean time anyway - we have 5 months after all.
It takes a week to level from 60 to 70.
I got MCH from 45 to 70 in 2 and a half weeks and that was with me being extremely lazy and dealing with DPS queues. Wym?????

Its not always so bad. Sometimes all you have to do is tell them how to do a certain thing. Sometimes they listen, sometimes they don't. But wouldn't you want to try and remedy the situation other than giving up completely?

Also some of them look up tanking guides before they set foot in instances so... You never know. You might luck out with one who's done their homework.

Tanking is literally the easiest job in this game and I definitely have way fewer concerns about fresh tanks being competent enough than I do about dancers. Especially now that they just always reduce damage and no longer have to stance dance. Meanwhile, get hyped for dancers doing half the dps they should be and not picking a dance partner.

The bottom line is that the only real difference between being competent (not great, just reasonable) at this game versus being terrible is the ability to read tooltips and not waste gcd's. No amount of leveling is ever going to get a bad player to read their skills. If someone can't manage to push a button every 2.5 seconds by the time they've leveled their first job to 50 or 60, they aren't ever going to develop that skill unless they are literal children. And no amount of leveling is going to make someone who is just competent spontaneously do what needs to be done to get good (which is find out of game optimization resources).
