Did Matoya just possess Y'shtola's body

Obviously we need more context for the extended trailer of today's fanfest but,if this is the way Matoya came up with to temporarily have the scions be out of commission....u think the same happened with Urianger and the other unconcious scions too until their souls come back?


I'm happy that they're doing more with Matoya cuz I really love her character,tho it makes me wonder if the rest of the scions(minus Lyse since...y'know had the same treatment as Yshtola.

Now the possession thing isn't out of nowhere considering Zenos managed to do it with the Resonance and let's not forget our sahagin priest friend from ARR, so it stands to reason that echo users can do the same,just wondering to what extent it's going to be done to help the warrior of light cuz by the end of part 1 of patch 4.5 almost all the core members of the scions(unless u wanna count Arenvald and the retired Lyse) are out of commission and we're left to face Elidibus-Zenos alone

Oh I initially thought that maybe "Matoya" is a title that gets passed to successors. The current Matoya is certainly very old.

For what it's worth, her new costume is being discussed in the design panel, and is simply described as "Y'shtola's Shadowbringers costume". Which could just be the spoiler-free version of the description, but they still decided to put that title on the slide.

The theory is clearly largely based on what Urianger says as he walks up and draws the cards, but while I think he's talking to her I don't think he's addressing her as Master Matoya. Instead, it appears that his initial comment of "What sayest though, Master Matoya" is Urianger-speak for "What would Master Matoya say?" which is then followed up with something she would say, the "We may accept this fate, or defy it, but we cannot deny it."

Then it's that bit that Y'Shtola reacts to.

From the german version he calls her Matoya, there is no mistaking it. Maybe her time run out and she didnt wanna got before knowing Yshtola is save?

I disagree. He's speaking directly to her, asking "what do you say?" - most likely referring to the prediction told by the fortune-telling cards he's holding up. (Lorebook 1, p.244 - a three-card spread is a common method of reading a person's fate.)

It doesn't particularly sound like something Matoya would say, and he hasn't been associated with her before (although it's possible he does know her). If anyone was going to 'quote' Matoya, I would expect it to be Y'shtola herself.

This was my speculation. I think since Y'shtola's soul was ripped from her body. Something probably happens to Matoya to where she either borrows Y'shtola's body until she 'comes back' as it were. Matoya herself hinted at her getting up there in the years and probably expects to die from old age at some point in the future so she probably gets 'killed off' as it were in 5.0
