Because this isn't FF11 and they added the missing sexes for the races. Going back on that now would be a really asinine thing to do.

Male vieras do exist. I don't see why they shouldn't be a playable race to be honest. There's no logical reason not to have them, aside from wanting Viera to be the sexy bunny race that caters to the male audience...in which case, it would be a little sad.

But I mean, considering the choice for their racial gear, that's already pretty obvious.

I actually don't think it is for most people. Truly. Most of those are pretty well repelled by the fact that there is any sincere concept of beauty and non-condemnation of fanservice.

A lot of the people who are frustrated I suspect are normal people who just really like freedom in designing characters and playing with aesthetics. Not everyone is into that, but I know that's how it is for me and a chunk of other people. It's why you get comments like "glamour is the true endgame" and whatnot. FFXIV is pretty great about offering players a lot of versatility and creative freedom, which acts as a draw for players who are primarily invested in storytelling and design. Those people don't want their creativity nerfed and want to be able to push into seldom seen (but still visually strong) new territory. I think that's where a lot of the concern comes from.

There is also a camp that has taken the waaaaaaaay more preferable/evenhanded stance that fanservice is fine but it should be equal opportunity. When you get extremists, the argument I've seen is that male fanservice does not exist at all and is impossible while any female fanservice is inherently evil and harmful. The people who are expressing concern in the FFXIV community are pretty moderate compared to that.

Some people like me wanted to play male vieras since a long time, and don't understand why this race would be female only when we know the males exist too. No male vieras, less fantasia potions for square enix.

Ummm they werent fine with them being gender locked which is why we now have kitty boys and femroes. A new gender locked race would be a step backwards.

Well, I think most people would agree that making female-only sexy races and male-only beastly looking races is backward thinking.

By the way, I'm not saying I want sexy ikemen bunnibois. I would be completely fine with the tall and muscular version they showed a while back, as long as it doesn't have the stupid proportions of male au ras.. It's just that having female only vieras seems very wierd to me. Lore reasons aresn't really a good excuse since even female vieras don't normally leave their homes as far as we know.

Is Viera a female only race in FF12? Yes, they are. Is there a problem with that at time FF12 release? No, there is none. Why are we bend over for social justice warrior now?
