You understand male Miqo'te were in exactly the same situation right? This is going to be an unpopular opinion, however, I can see why they would gender lock the Viera race. This would be because very few male Viera actually exist and they live in seclusion the majority of their lives. It would break immersion and their own lore to have a ton of Male Viera running around.
Perhaps we should wait until 23th March to know if what you suspect is correct highly doubt that they won't add male gender to one race.If they don't give us male Viera, I might seriously quit this game. Not because I must play one (I do want to though) but because I don't want to support a company that would do something as disgusting. And no, I don't want a male only race either. If it's some kind of lion race? How about NO! We have felines already!
I hate that I'm going to sound like some kind of SJW here but I'm so sick of this pandering to straight men, with waifus everywhere. Even bosses are mainly made out of waifus. If they're male they usually look like ass, barely human if at all.

I'm hoping to be able to play the male Viera, but I also wouldn't mind a new male only race if they are good looking, even though I don't like the idea of gender locking things.
What confuses me is why would SE not announce both together? I can understand models not being ready in time, and I can understand not having footage of in-the-works projects and stuff. What I don't understand is the lack of final concept art. The timeline is 5 months, so at least a final concept art ready is necessary to even know what you're going to be working on. It doesn't matter if it's a male viera or another race entirely, not showing a concept or even hinting at it puzzles me.
It does not make sense to me because pre-ordering is going to happen very very soon and this weekend is the perfect opportunity to spike sales a bit up. If anything announcing the males first and leaving the females last would create a higher hype than the other way around, considering the majority of people preffer to play a female character.

So they learned nothing from when Roe's and Cat girls were genderlocked? Wow.
You mean the lore that they are just bringing to the fore right now and was only present during 4.5? The lore that has no past ffxiv content attaching it and would be by definition, the easiest to modify within ffxiv? This is going to be an unpopular opinion, however, I can see why they would gender lock the Viera race. Well, when they made this game (1.0) there were no catbois, femroes, or female Highlanders. That was one of the first things they decided to fix when they blew up 1.0. Gender locking Vieria would be a step back. They have the freedom after all i say since FFXIV is its own game in the franchise, i mean if you look at FFXI they als had "Miqote", "Rogadyn" which were gender locked, tooked those and made there own in this game, why not make the same with Viera, its another Universe simply, homages and inspiratiosn to the franchise as a whole are ok but give me something new Square, i would had even prefered Bangana as playable race but asian market and there "cute characters", the Viera as shown now in 14 are also less beastly as there originals, same base model as always sadly with just ears anda tail added again basically, the feet are the only example so far.
I'm not changing, maybe an alt. It's not going to affect me one way or the other. But I can see how others would be upset. And I would see it as a step backwards.
We can consider also the possibility that male Viera aren't yet ready to show and require small detail adjustments.I'm hoping to be able to play the male Viera, but I also wouldn't mind a new male only race even if they are good looking, even though I don't like the idea of gender locking things.

For what was spoken and how it was spoken you can perceive they are full of work, honestly he seemed tired and if he really is tired you can imagine the teams having to adapt all emotes, all gear past and the news to come, cut-scenes and so on we can only be patient and wait.
Highly doubt that males won't be add to Viera.

me main issue is the tiptoeing around male viera they are not saying anything showing anything we are completely in the dark about a potential gender for the new playable race this is not building any hype it is just building concerns about gender locking. not having models ready to showcase is one thing not even giving its existence a mention is anotherWe can consider also the possibility that male Viera aren't yet ready to show and require small detail adjustments.

It'll be weird if they pull out the 'gender exclusive race' - card after all what happened.
That would cut badly into the community.
Okay so then why not at least confirm they exist??We can consider also the possibility that male Viera aren't yet ready to show and require small detail adjustments.

Like a simple "Hey, we have male Viera, we're working on them but they're not quite ready to show off yet." would've been enough.
Hell, if male Viera were in the works there'd be concept art for them right! That would've been a great thing to show off at the art panel! Oh wait they didn't.
All signs currently point to male Viera not being a thing.
