It's time for Yoshida to step down. He's officially entered Tanaka territory. We CAMPAIGNED against genderlocks and here we are in 2019. No one asked for Horthgar. They look horrible, and if you didn't want to add male Viera then don't add Viera period.
We should never let Square hear the end of this until the genderlocks are removed. I don't care that they have to do it to 2 races now, that was entirely their fault.
Fix the genderlocks or remove Yoshida. As producer/director he handles 100% of the blame and responsibility for this HORRIBLE decision.
What a sick, petty individual do you got to be to actively wish for the ruination of someone's career because they don't wanna put a peener on a specific race? Get over yourself. It's 2019. No more gender-locked races! Male Viera and female Hrothgar should be part and parcel of the playable races. There's literally no need for this. And I don't care that there's other races who fall within the realm of what people are looking for physically from both these.
What is the point in telling them "well, you already have male miqo'te and female roegadyn, why do you need THESE too?" There's sexy ladies in the game already. Now we're getting some with bunny ears. Let people who want these have them and enjoy them as much as folks are looking forward to female Viera and male Hrothgar.
I'm not happy either race is gender locked.
If this is just a temporary thing so that the expansion and the new races don't need to be delayed, that's fine. Give us what's finished and release the other genders later, but gender locking an entire race is always always a bad idea.
We already saw it backfire with XI.
I love Final Fantasy and I've been playing XIV since beta, so I'll give the benefit of the doubt and hope that male viera and female hrothgar will come out later...but I am legitimately disappointed.

Rather hoping they're just holding out on the male Viera for the Tokyo Fanfest, but that would be utterly foolish to do and thus incredibly unlikely... I had hoped they had put their gender locked races behind them.
They didn't mention the lack of males at all, which makes me think at Tokyo they're going to be all, "Now some of you may have noticed that there were no male Viera in that trailer! Well that's because [Male Only Race]!"
It's possible that they just didn't have male Viera assets ready yet, but I feel like they would have said so, if that were the case.

Now I'm usually hesitant for insults when it comes to developing but..
If this is true, SE, you are incredibly stupid and lazy.
"Wah wah this hyurclone is too hard to make it's gonna be our last
OH and lets recreate the failure, because we have the memories of goldfish, of 1.0 and gender lock it! That way we only have to do half"
Don't misunderstand: I get that a majority of the player-base play female characters; that's evident by the amount of female-friendly armor sets (lookin' at you Omicron Chest of Healing). I can see how, from a business standpoint, pandering to the lotioned up hands of that fanbase would be a lucrative endeavor. There are, however, some of us who play male characters. I will wait for more information before I start punching baby pandas out of sadness.
