I don't think they will gender lock a race. I think they just want to save the reveal for another panel / fan fest. If they revealed everything there would be no reason to watch the other things.

That or the males are gonna be the Popori of FFXIV (as in, completely unrelated to the Viera).
They could have said "males are planned, but currently still being worked on" to ease people.
Anyone know how the JP forums are reacting to this? Are they upset about no males or just gung-ho on Vieras existing (or totally silent)?
I just want to point out... The Males are there. They didn't demo them, but the Wandering Draumaturge on the Prima Vista gives a VERY Detailed account of the Male Veira.
They're like the Keepers of the Moon. They don't hang with the girls much. They mainly keep in the trees and protect the wood. Once a year, they come down to breed and gather up any males that have come of age, and train them in the way of the wood.
They didn't show them in the video... but they're there. They won't sex lock a race.
I'd rather be waiting for a fanfest because I came from the last one with positive reactions, not stressing over whether or not the next one will address the concerns the previous one started in the first place.
The game isn't small enough for them to put off showing 1/2 of a player race. An entire expansion just isn't strapped for discussion material like that.
I wouldn't play a male anyway, females with that BUTT.
Considering we have Fran, and very close to how she looks, and how Viera behave, etc. all fairly closely matching that of their titles, I'm going to assume they were talking about the story within the 24-man being part of those games canonly. That's a bit different, especially when you take a step back... and I think... they said this new raid is actually canon with Nier? I might have misread that. Still, I don't think male Viera will be playable. I know people are still hoping, but I seriously would find it in such poor taste to only show half of a race.It is outright stated that xiv's ivalice is not 12/tactics ivalice. Canon is, or ate least should be, determined by what makes the game fun to play, not beholden to some unrelated story in an unrelated universe.
And I'd put money that "we want viera" was said not because people wanted them to ctrl + c, ctrl + v from 12/tactics, lazy restrictions and all, but because it was easier to say than "we want a demihuman race that is of another familiar pet species, but not too smol and brutish like miqo'te, but more refined like elezen"
Considering it was brought up in Fanfest showing Heavensward and stated by Koji and Yoshida in a Q&A asking exactly how many Warriors of Light are present. There is only ONE Warrior of Light in the confines of the story. Hydaelyn's Chosen =/= Warrior of Light with the given information. It was confirmed Ysayle was a Chosen of Hydaelyn when she died; the spark of light marked her as such and was commented upon by an NPC. It wasn't a retcon; that's players not splitting differences. The game very much says Warrior of Light when it comes to the Warrior of Light (or Darkness to boot) and calls others Hydaelyn's Chosen. So far, others with the Echo are within the Hydaelyn's Chosen. There's one Chosen of Hydaelyn, there's many Warriors of Light according to ARR. They somewhat dropped/retconned the plotpoint in subsequent expansions, but they're pretty specific about there being multiple people who made the time leap from Carteanu at the start of the MSQ.
That and the fact that a second gender of a race should not be news. If they have so little to announce that they had to wait to show the male version then why are we 1) having 3 fanfests and 2) a new expansion?
$5 they didn't finish the male models in time, and thus left them to the next fan festival. Same reason why they didn't announce the 8 man raids either. Also the Au Ra were announced at the tokyo fan festival, so they are ahead of schedule.
