Gender locked race?

Rev is about as likely as me playing Au Ra or Viera. Very unlikely, especially as they're less popular than FFXIV's beastmen and not as well known compared to FFVIII's Shumi (since you actually fight one, whereas Rev in FFXII... there's what, only two in the entire game?).

Plot twist: Rev are male Viera. :O

Edit: Joke aside, after checking on the lore we got from the dreaming Dramaturge (aka Matsuno's "wonderful" text as Yoshi mentioned), I doubt Rev or Garif are male viera.
If young female/male Viera look the same til the age of 13, male Viera would need to mutate most likely to look like Rev or the Garif. I doubt a cute bunny child with maybe tiny/no ears can grow into a cat-like race. Also lets not forget the proportions of the ears.

Lol. It scares because Rev is part of the tactics universe that we're going to "sort of" visit soon, so it adds a bit of weight to it.. But if they were going to add a beasty race and they skip Ronso for a naked cat face (with a baby mane), I will feel so trolled lol. (Doesn't have to be Ronso but we all know it's supposed to be a lion like race according to the leak, so Rev, Ronso, etc).

Variety because the current CC is very bland. You cant really customize your own character, build his own identity while someone else can just look like you (same face, same hair, same everything).

There are two elements to this, though. One is the range of choices you have in designing your character, and the other is how many other people are likely to make the same choice that you did - and whether you see that as a fault of the character creator or not.

More variety would always be nice, but it's not like we're that limited. There's a big range of body shapes and faces, but people tend to gravitate towards the few "best" ones, and I think that could happen however many races they add.

It's unfair to say that the character creator is lacking enough variety just because someone can end up picking the same settings you did. Of course they can, and will. The same appealing combinations of features are likely to be chosen by multiple people.

If looking different to all other players in a large-scale multiplayer game is that important to you, you have to go out of the way to find an unusual character design that you still like.

If you'd rather stick with the design you like most (even if it's shared by other people) then you either differentiate it by your glamour choices, or just accept that other characters will look like yours - but you're still the one and only Warrior of Light who exists in your version of the game's story.

When asked about male Viera, Yoshida said we'd get info about them at the Tokyo Fanfest. If the answer were "no, we're not getting them" it wouldn't make any sense to have a special reveal about that, let alone a teaser about an upcoming reveal. The only way his comment makes sense is if we're getting both genders, but the reveal videos are being released separately.

Unless the exciting reveal is another new (male-only) race! In which case they can't tell us that Viera aren't coming without confirming that something else is coming.

(In which case I would think it would have still been better to confirm that much and let the speculation begin. But of course it's not up to me.)

No, no one has. The reasoning for miqo'te being female only was FFXIV making expies of the FFXI.

But this is different as Mithra and Miqo'te have diversified and became 2 separate entities, while Viera has to deal with being, well Viera in its entirety and everything that the Ivalive Alliance games have to stand for, so to implement new ideas and changes to a pre-existing race is gonna be met with potential resistance from the other side of the company.

People keep forgetting that despite being a producer and strong figure, Yoshi still has to obey copyright even when dealing with different sections of FF in the company and the bureaucracy as well, alongside needing to discuss with other creators as well to use their work. I mean, it's easier to demand Viera and expect him to just, well, make it without understanding how the system works and how hard Yoshi has to try to get the rights and green light to use it.

Blufever said 2 new races and noyhing about gender locking true, but it's more to do with surrounding evidence such as Yoshi saying he'll gender lock Viera and have a 2nd race to appease those who wants males, his dislike of Male Viera, the avoidance as well, how Viera has always been historically gender locked even in their home games.

Yoshi still has a pretty big say in what happens, alongside other reasons I have said in a previous post.
