Gender locked race?

In the Game Watch interview, when asked about male Viera, Yoshida said to read the lore written for Viera again.

A part of the lore that could be relevant is that Viera do leave the woods to live amongst the Humes, but by doing so they become outcasts and lose the ability to communicate with the Jungle, their senses are dimmed (to our level?). One considers this is not written as only females do this. It could be quite inclusive of males.

It would also fix up the lore around the Viera so that player-characters don't have a lore advantage over the other races while in the jungle.

Outcast doesn't need to mean shunned/exiled. It could be restricted to just dimming the normal Viera senses that would allow communication with the forest other races don't have.

I really hope there are male viera, but I don't think I will change from Miqo'te.

Regarding the lore and of course having their ability to hear the wood etc. Wouldn't the WoL/WoD be able to understand the green word and 'hear' the wood through the use of the echo? Or did I completely forgot how the echo works in regards to an understanding over languages including spiritual ones? But yes... wouldn't they be able to communicate with the wood regardless of race? That'd be pretty cool...

I have to ask; how would this spoil immersion? I honestly don't understand how people could get upset if 5 of those '7500' males happens to be in their vicinity or something. Or even ten of them or twenty etc. You're not going to see 7500 male Viera around you at one given time.

On the other hand, I wish there was 7500 handsome male Viera in my vicinity at all times. I'll be your border, bunny men.

When people say that numerous player characters of a specific race/gender/class combination breaks immersion, I personally find it odd. As far as the game is concerned, your own character is the only one that matters, and everyone else is just Adventurer Jane/Joe of some vague signalment. Racial numbers will never take into account PC numbers by any measure. An oft mentioned example would be male Keepers of the Moon, and even male Seekers of the Sun don't really hold a high proportion of the Miqo'te population in total, and there are so many PCs running around as one (and I originally played as a male Keeper).

I decided to look back at Au Ra reveal vs Viera reveal. They both show off essentially the same thing, brief clips of both of them running, doing emotes etc. Even the official FFXIV YouTube puts it up as Race Reveal "The Viera", which seems to me to be set in stone that the race will be gender locked. We might of even seen the sub race as well potentially, depending on how they handle it.

For those people who want Male Viera it might be very disappointing come next Fanfest.

I'm 100% not a fan of gender or race locked content in mmos - and while it's been a dealbreaker for me in the past with other games, if Viera are female only, well, whatever I guess. I had no intention of swapping to a male Viera myself, but I find it unfortunate for those who had intended on changing to a Male Viera (if the assumpptions are even true).

Even with the leaks aside, during the live letter on Sunday the following Q/A is more telling than anything else to me:

Q - "Fans are very excited that Viera is a new race but I think that fans are hoping that we’ll also get the male Viera as a playable character. Can you comment on that? Or even if they’re going to be NPCs if not, or if we have to wait until Tokyo Fan Fest?"

A - "That’s true we do still have the Tokyo Fan Fest ahead of us. zips mouth"

If there were playable Male Viera, he could very easily have just said, "Yeah, but you'll see them in Tokyo," or "We're still polishing them," or something.

Plus, having just watched the Au Ra reveal video - there were male and female models there. I have a very strong feeling anyone looking forward to playable male Viera are going to be disappointed.

Which would be very bad business sense if we assume 5% of the game population(probably an overestimate but going to roll with it) and use the lowball of active subs at 500k (unofficial ofc as SE never reveal numbers of subs) we get 25k people wanting to be male vieras fantasias are £5.75 so 25000 x 5.75 is £143,750 that is a decent amount of money from just fantasias and SE would be fools to ignore that. gender locking viera to make another male gender locked race is way too big a gamble to warrant such an investment but i can't know what SE is doing so if they go this route it will be a gamble that won't pay off.

There's no logic in it and even the lore can be debunked to allow them - heck even the story allows it.

Ronso tribe are nowhere near Ivalice - the only lion like species that is in that 'area' is Rev.

As for not telling us about the Male Viera. Why would they tell us when the big reveal would be at JP fanfest? Male Viera has never been seen before, their appearance widely speculated. You're not going to give a half-arsed 'oh yeah, they'll be playable - but you'll see them later.' No, they're going to wait for buildup and hype and then release it in the country it all started, and most likely with the creators of Viera from tactics/ff12. Male Viera would be a huge thing - not just for FF14 fanbase but for those who were major fans of FF12 and tactics.

And if they don't well, they're going to get harassed until they do hand it in. Sure preorders and all that, but people can cancel preorders. So I'm not understanding the preorder argument either.

As far as I’m aware, there hasn’t been male viera shown before, so them being in our game as a playable race would be huge. Of course he’d save it. And you have too much faith in yoshi if you think he’d ever just say “we’re still working on them” or anything like that. They obviously didn’t show the males for a reason, and you people seem to forget our beloved producer is a troll. Don’t forget that he loves withholding information to make people squirm, regardless if it’s in bad taste. It’s what he does. The fact you and other people think he’d say something to put people at ease is hilarious. The troll has admitted to being a troll lol.
