Gender locked race?

What? It is sexist when the girls look like playboy bunnies, yet we aren't allowed to have males to that regard. The same can be said toward the Hrothgar, as it's fairly sexist to only give the men their powerful beastly race and not the girls. These genders exist in the lore for these races as they should exist in the character creator.

It is not sexism when there's countless of other characters and whatnot around in the game world which has a balance between it all. Just because Viera and Hrothgar act as a different kind of medium of artistic sense trying to stay to source material, it is still not sexism.

I swear people ignore everything else when it comes to this, only to rage about what they see now.

Viera was already an established race in another FF game. Just like now, the males were said to be mythical and almost non-existent, even though we knew they exist. SE is adhering to the lore to keep it like that, not letting players breaking the illusion of male Viera everywhere. Female Viera were already looking like playboy bunnies, and you did not see or play as their male counterpart in that game.

It only became a problem now for people.

I genuinely like the fact that they're respecting the lore of how the Viera always have been. They're my favourite race in the entire series, I want the mystery of male sightings to stay a mystery.

And hey, we're going to end up with a wider variety of races running around, which I will never say no to. Seeing the same cat boys and Au Ra girls is starting to get to me. We'll see dungeon parties with more than just 3 characters with the exact same face!

There were two sides. A side for Viera and a side for a playable beastman. They tried to please both. They made the effort to anyway. In one way, you could say they were trying to be fair. They gave Viera and the beastman and they gave one of each genderlock only races. It's not unfair though if you didn't get the race you prefer because they still did it fairly to the best of their abilities. From their pov, it's just impossible to please everyone, but they try to. But it's hard to when they want to please themselves as well. They created a lore around there being no male Viera, and look at what happen with male miqo'tes and Au Ra as a whole. They're everywhere and not even close to their lores anymore. Just like Role Players want to create a story, so to does SE and they don't want to keep bending lore all the time, and can you really blame them? Would you want to bend your RP to please what someone else wants knowing your character would never do that? It's the same way from their PoV except on a much MUCH wider scale. What they do affects everyone. I can't say I agree in their decision but rather that I understand it. They could later give the other gender but in order to do that, they would have to sacrifice their story and they decided that just this one time, the lore meant more to them. Like sure they bend lore all the time, but it doesn't mean they like it, nor does it mean they want to continue to keep bending it just because they have multiple times before. Perhaps they have reached a point where they want to stop. Sometimes it's just not even up to them such as the crossovers with other games. At that point it's business getting in the way of their lore. If someone offered you a million dollars to advertise a cross promotion into your character's role play, I think we would all do it.

I don't necessarily mind if players voice their concerns over genderlocks. Just as long as it's all consolidated into one or two spaces so we don't have a spam of threads by the same handful of people whining about the same exact thing. It reminds me of the high elfers in the WoW forums.

With that said, the thing that I find most annoying are the accusations of homophobia, sexism, and toxic masculinity as if any of this has to do with male viera at all. Some people around here have been living in their insulated bubbles in regard to male viera and how they think they should look. There seems to be a preconceived notion that male viera are all glamourized, feminine bishies. And therefore the exclusion of them is 'homophobic' (???)

First of all, none of us know how male viera look. For all we know they could look like Bugs Bunny on steroids. We don't know if they look anything like the fan arts and commissions you keep posting. To use your own male viera headcanons as a premise to accuse others of homophobia or perpetuating sexism is simply ridiculous because we don't even know what male viera look like at all.

And if I may add: This game has a plethora of options for guys who want to play feminine males. The implication that we're lacking in that department is, in my opinion, baffling. You can make bishie feminine twinks out of midlanders, miqo'te, and elezen (Ironically, I see many posting in this thread). There's also a plethora of armors and glamours to choose from that can be seen as more feminine than masculine. IMO this game has given this type of aesthetic plenty of shine.

Honestly, if they announced male viera and they looked beastial like Hrothgar, I would guess that the same people would be complaining that they're not bishie enough to their liking, or that they're not children like Alphinaud. The goalposts would be moved from genderlocks to gender presentation.

I do think male viera and female hrothgar have a chance to be added in the future. Probably in an expansion or two.

And by making them playable, it would of been a great customisation option. Another young, sleek looking race next to Miqote, Elezen (Giraffe) and hyurs would add variety. Many are playing the same race, same face option, same animations for years. Those things have not shake up and character creation is also a big part of MMOs.
Ofcourse this game provides much more than cosmetics but when you do the main story, run around the cities and see your characters doubles... it does get upsetting.

Nobody is complaining about ronsos, many actually support people that have waited for a playable beast race. But first and foremost, I feel lied to. Ive been waiting since paris FanFest for more information, and all we got is to wait for JP fanfest. It would of been different if Yoshida just wouldnt let us build up hype, he could of just stated in Paris that we will not get them and the outcry wouldnt be this much. Also the promise about no more gender locked races... I can only feel betrayed like many other veterans.

So just because your own character doesnt matter to you or you dont need more than you got, doesnt mean others have to be fine with the given limitations as well. This whole Viera thing has started even before Heavensward. And the show your support thread didnt just grow up cause of only females, but as a whole new race.

To be fair, multiple people in this thread tried to show evidence that you shouldn't get your hopes up. Multiple people in this thread chose to ignore said evidence and berate those who tried to give reasonings. So I have less sympathy for you guys now simply because of the bad attitudes I've seen.

Reasons and examples where given, just because you refuse to accept them and ignore then does not make them invalid.

We got what we got, it has its reasons, and instead of looking at all the new and great things we are getting, you all choose to be vile and rude, so sorry, no sympathy at all from me.

Come expansion, I will change to a female Viera and enjoy dancer even though its not a healer, you however can chose to enjoy what the the game does give you are leave, its that simple.
