I've seen plenty of people here campaigning to have him fired since the news broke. People are losing their damn minds over it.

This post has been made at least 20 times in this very thread by now. The reasoning I'm sure was something more behind the scenes. It doesn't really matter though. Just push forward and ask for what you didn't get.Lore as an excuse is nothing short of a flimsy excuse when the WoL is an outlier in so many ways beyond this. If the developers really want to throw that as the reason we cannot have these genders, then why can we play Keepers of the Moon Miqo'te, Duskwight Elezen, and even Raen Au Ra? Why are there multiple jobs that are written in the lore stating as there only being one such as Dragoon, White Mage, and Scholar? The developer is only lying to us and using lore as the excuse when they have been known to bend and allow for things such as this time and again.

Okay, peeps, let's do a formal manifesto. Change all headgears to Bunny chief and let's gather at Gridania aetheryte at 10:00 PM (of each time zone, so we will fill it all night!)
If this is true the Game made another step back in time.
Gender locked Gear already felt lazy and unnecessary restrictive. Like something we should have left in the past, especially for Gear that is gender neutral, like Gosetsus Samurai Outfit, Amerycs Armor, Yshtolas Outfit, etc.
Very disappointed in the genderlock, especially regarding Hrothgar, as it's a step backwards for no good reason. In this case I would rather have nothing.
I'll probably still change to Viera because I've been looking forward to them, but I'll still keep pushing for males as there's really no justification in this day and age to avoid making them just because "male rabbits are weird".

I would also like female hrothgar. Gender locking in 2019 is a bit backwards and disappointing.
People claiming it to be sexist truly only lives in the moment and does not look into every other non-sexist stuff the game has.
Putting out 2 unique races with a gender lock each in the midst of 6 other playable non-gender locked races is not sexism.
I can understand the disappointment, however, of wanting male viera or female hrothgar, but calling it sexism is dumb.
I, for one, can appreciate SE going down the route to establish how rare Viera males are in their game world and lore to the point they don't want player interference to change that. They did once, and they have taken a turn on it again.
You mean like Mi'qote are suppsoed to be rare also. Sorry, but this is a lame excuse, explain this also to Au'ra which were new and from another land and suddenly we had them as starter race aswell, explain that lore wise also, stop defending them for such lame excuses.People claiming it to be sexist truly only lives in the moment and does not look into every other non-sexist stuff the game has.

I have said it many times other places, Miqo'te lore and Viera are different, Miqp'te lore still leaves it to where males can become adventures and roam around, Viera clearly does not. Also if, lets say M/F ratio for Miqo is 3/7 then Viera would be 1/9
