Interesting interesting. It still does seem quite odd that they wouldn't show them off at the fan festival.Do you mean like shown side by side? Because then yeah we definitely never recieved that lol. But do you mean is there any mention what so ever about a subrace? Because we do have mention of a subrace in the game lore written by Matsuno. That lore says there are two clans (subraces) and their main difference is light skin and dark skin, this lore written for Viera is also the same lore built for FFXII's world and we know from that game that it's indeed mainly a color difference.

They did, that's how 'little' the difference was. Which actually makes it really questionable. The females shown were supposedly of those two 'clans'. Which is just ??? - you couldn't even tell the difference unless you knew Viera lore. Other subraces are like that as well though; differences in skin tones and the likes. Viera is just odd because the difference is something we would consider a 'normal skin tone' on both of them. Dark skin vs light skin, can't say I like it.
Both 'types' both live in the same location, have the same type of history and follow the same laws - they have the same lore. It's actually pretty boring.

That's bothered me since we first got the Viera lore dump. Skintone might be the most noticeable difference between clans of other races, but they usually have secondary features (eg. distinct eyes) and always different lore.
It bothers me that he just talks about "Viera culture" and not the clans.
Wild theory though, if skintone really is the only distinction between them - and unless they've specifically made new dark-oriented and pale-oriented palettes for them - why not have them programmed as one clan, and use the second clan for something else entirely... like Hrothgar?
Then again, they might just have more subtle distinctions and the Dramaturge isn't going to hold up his explanation to outline every detail. If nothing else, I hope that's the case at least.

Ha, nah, that was both of them. The video wasn't all that interesting, to be honest, and to me wasn't all that well done - it didn't seem 'complete'. It seemed like they were behind schedule, in fact, you got hints they were certainly getting by the skin of their teeth regarding time to actually present things for fanfest.
If they're that behind on Viera then I shudder to think what state Hrothgar would be in - or if Hrothgar was created 'first' then obviously they had it all along in their heads that they wanted a gender lock, and the story they're going for in regards to ShadowBringers is going to reflect that. Or neither is gender locked and they're just behind on schedule. Or Hrothgar is going to be a later release.
The race could still be elegant looking even if they're bigger. :v Not all big races have to look like ogres or something. I want a race that is ripped and dignified looking. Kind of like how the Viera females are sexy but still have this real fierce presence to them. Like they aren't to be messed with.
I just don't want another big comic relief race since SE pretty much uses male roes as joke characters exclusively.

I dunno if they'll try to fit any expectations people have if they aren't making male Viera... besides it being male. Like if they're decidedly against doing male Viera enough to do a completely different race, they're gonna do something different lol. Also, whose expectations are they going to try to fill exactly? So many different versions of what people want from male Viera, trying to shove all of those into a "different" race... yeah I don't see it. I would just expect incineroar and if you get something less bulky it's a pleasant surprise lol.
I kind of understand this. I'll tell you I was really excited for what male Au'ra could bring. I tried so hard to like them but they were nothing of what I wanted. That is what I hate about concept art without them specifically putting their views on it. We don't know what they'll most likely decide out of all wildly different options, so different in fact that they might as well be completely different races.I dunno if they'll try to fit any expectations people have if they aren't making male Viera... besides it being male. Actually, when they do new races I'd like to see the comment they put similar to the art panel in fan-fest about the stages they did to make Yotsuyu. It would definitely help make us understand what they're trying for.

I'd be more inclined to place more of the blame on the leaker, SE is still at least partially to blame for a half-hearted reveal. The problem is, for Au Ra female/male we had at least artworks (even if they differ by a lot from it). But Hrothgar are just a mystery to us. I blame SE for not being informative on this. It does build hype, but it can turn into something really bad within seconds. Once people realize Hrothgar are totally not their type, its gonna cause massive disappointment. Even more if they're going to be our male Viera substitute.

The Shadowbringers information does seem odd as the product is up for pre-order and we still don't even know most of the core content that will be in it (at least one job, how the races work etc). That seems odd to me...
