I mean, to be frank - someone wanting Hrothgar is obviously going to be in the same boat. I can understand the want for Hrothgar, but I'd be extremely saddened by what they would represent.
Best of both worlds, as people have stated before would be to have both races without a gender-lock slapped on them. The sad fact is that someone who wants male Hrothgar is saddled into the corner where they're viewed as wanting a genderlock - because there are only two ways it can go. Hrothgar is the male option and is genderlocked or no genderlocks. It shouldn't mean that those of us should who want male Viera should start screeching because someone else wants Hrothgar - blame SE for this, not them. Or, wait for the live letter and we can see if we really need to start writing our desires for genderlocks to be lifted.
People are allowed to like what they want. I only wrinkle my -hopefully male bunny- nose when someone comes into the thread and just goes 'hurr hurr, I hope they're gender locked because f you guys.'
Yea, that is my biggest issue with the whole thing. There isn't anything wrong with a race like the Hrothgar at all. I welcome it, I might even end up liking it more than Viera depending on how it looks, but the way they seem to be setting up to unveil them isn't going to go over well. It just feels like a bait and switch since people were already expecting male Viera. So now Hrothgar are going to get a bad rep from the get go (assuming they go with a genderlocked route).I mean, to be frank - someone wanting Hrothgar is obviously going to be in the same boat. Basically, I predict it being a big ol' mess. If people were booing for the blue mage reveal, I doubt this is going to go over well at all. I'm hoping I'm wrong though.

My god for a second I thought this was Gladiolus from FFXV but upon looking closer...

This with bunny ears pls! Kthnxbye!
If Hrothgar are added, I wonder if they'll have any speech quirks like the Ronso?

I'd be fine with that. One thing I like about FFXIV is the accents and/or speech quirks they try to give characters, beastmen included (when/if they get a voice). Gives the world a little more flavour.
As much as I hate Viera, I do hope that if they get any voiced lines, they have the same accent they had in FFXII and not just be England - Forest.

Hope not. That would make Hrothgar seem like a beastman instead of an intelligent race. "Me Scholar. Me study Nym good." Now about female Hrothgar...

It's less to do with their intellect and more to do with having their own tongue, such that the Eorzean common tongue would be foreign to them. I realise there's limitations on what they can do with VA in the game, but I do wish such dialects extended beyond beast tribes... my biggest disappointment when arriving in Ishgard was that it sounded just about the same as everywhere else in the game.
Plus, some (and I do stress, some) of the beast tribes are fairly intelligent, anyway. They're just quirky.
