I don't really see gender-locked gear as bad as gender-locking an entire race - in fact, for the most part I have little issue with it, provided both genders get good gear and it's limited in scope.
Still, if the idea of "cute male Viera" is off-putting to them, simple solution... stick to the concept art and don't make them cutesy. There is a lot of art out there that illustrates how it could be done just fine. At the same time, there's a lot of dubious outfits in the game, in use e.g. by catboys, which doesn't seem to be an issue. So I don't buy that excuse at all. It relates to comments made in 2013, and since that time, a lot has changed. I wouldn't stop playing the game if they don't add male Viera, but it will leave a very sour impression of the devs in my mind, as I think there's already enough waifu pandering in this game. And yet, male midlanders outnumber the females, and catboys as well as male au ra, though outnumbered by the females, form a decent chunk of the played characters. So look there for design inspiration. E.g.
Which is fine by me. I think there's still plenty of differentiation between each race. I have my criticisms of how they handled au ra, but they still look visually distinct from every other race and, IMO, the males look great (except that one face...)
Don't forget the all important "probably" and "most likely". Those are developer weasel words for leaving a foot in the door, should they want to do more races... and also a great way of taking players by surprise.

When the game's story becomes self-aware:

... I'll take it.
Where do I sign for Hrothgar looking like this? How much money must I pay? How much juice must I drink? HOW MUCH MUST I LIFT?!
Orrrrr, just have it on the Miqo'te - where it's better suited.
Why can't dudes have the dreads/braids?
Why isn't the muscle scale on all races? Sigh.

Just curious if this image uploaded by Tonrak ever got posted somewhere on this thread (quoted below)... or if Cyrillien's sketch from tumblr was also suggested. It is indeed a tedious matter trying to dredge through 149 pages and I will not attempt it.
By the way... it would seem that page 150 now seems a reality.
I certainly would've wanted a tall beautiful race that's all about isolation and keeping up appeasing the Wood. Elezens could have been that, but they're not since they're just transferred over Elvaan.
Other than the males, it should not be too hard creating the race since Viera already exists in other game... And we know how many of FF12 mobs have made it too FF14. As for male they have plenty of examples:
The only reason why it's "Weird" to have male viera is that people like to sexualize female rabbits

Both look really nice. Since Viera are really in tune with the wilderness, I hope that the men can have really long hair. I noticed this from when I briefly tried WoW that some elf races have males with longer hair than the females, which I thought made them look way more fantasy-like and heroic. The current options males have for long hair are not that good. We have one with an annoying cowlick, one with with an out of place white bead that clashes with most of my outfits, and one that would be so cool if they removed the random circlet they decided to place on it.

Let's all make a promise to come back here on march 22nd so we can see who was right and who is furiously typing at their keyboard because HOW DARE THEY?!

If we don't get male Viera watch another 150+ page thread pop up in addition to the continuation of this one. I don't want to let the subject rest, but if they decide to be stubborn about not adding them then its byebye FFXIV for me.

See you in shadowbringers either way!
I or someone else will probably make another thread if we don't get male viera lol
While it'd be nice to stick with this thread, the title and op are lacking. I also think having a lot of "likes" on the first post is important. Instead of duplicate posts, the japanese "like" a post they agree with. The staff probably take into account the amount of likes to gauge what players want. Fortunately, this thread is very active. It's important to have an active thread, too.
