Now with our given information they're probably not literally Ronso, but lion-like and "sort of Ronso like". Besides if the other race was locked (if it's a thing, seems likely but we don't have a 100%er) then I bet a female version of that would be pretty great to have.

I think it would be best if SE gets a negative reaction about no male viera, if that's a thing, and I assume they would get some amount, that they then should very quickly give a coy "Viera's story isn't over, please look forward to it ". And be sure to work male viera into 6.0.

I'm not saying people who want male viera would be like "YES, SE THATS IT!" lol, clearly releasing them at the same time is what someone who wanted male Viera wants, but I imagine you would take a huge momentum hit out of the hate train that might happen from no male viera.

Not saying there wont be male viera, just to be clear to anyone thinking I'm saying that - just suggesting SE has the ability (I think) to cause a significant cut out of any rage if they quickly played into the hate like "Ah ah ah.. We're not done~!" lol.
I think theyd still end up with damage control if the did this. Even if were talking Hrothgar = Ronso (and an important note here: Theyve already given us Viera as a name direct, why change Ronso to Hrothgar?), it still suffers many of the same issues. No information regarding them in game or otu of game, no build up, no hints beyond bugs, etc. But that isnt the case with viera and a plausible player expectation of their being male viera. Not saying there wont be hype for a Ronso race, but SE would still take a hit from doing that bait and switch, and shoving male viera (or female Ronso) off to a later date will be met with criticisms and disbelief. Theres a lot of momentum behind the male viera thing, so again, pulling a switch at the very last fan festival with nothing in game to even hint at another race, or out of game to do so, would hurt more than help. People would see it and ask "Cool, but where the hell did this come from? Did they even listen to what we wanted?" Even players who have less invested interest or are unaware of Viera lore will start asking "So wait, were gonna be gender locking 2 different races all of a sudden?" I dont see how that would be a wise move, or how much counter hype releasing Ronso would provide considering that while some people requested it, it wasnt anywhere near the numbers of Viera.

In the end, if theres gonna be no male Viera, at this point its better for SE to be upfront with it and not ambiguous. Itll damage the hype train, but not as badly if they build expectations up until Fanfest and then drop that news there. Now would be best too because theres a small lull in the hype, so if people become outraged, that outrage has better chances of being diffused a bit before Fanfest and allow for speculation of what will come in Male Viera's place. Thatll start off a new hype train for more momentum.

Here's to hoping we get both races and genders then, cause I think that outcome would be the best possible one.

Also good point on teh wow thing. That is worth noting. It may be they stopped development on Male Viera to capitalize on that and make a male Hrothgar to soak up some of those sweet sweet WoW subs. Could be.

While I get that it's important for them to want to capitalize on all the new players coming from WoW, I think that that probably wouldn't sit well with many as they'd be sidelining their "OG" players/fanbase in order to do that. And it'd make it even worse to know that they sidelined male Viera of all things as it's something a good portion of the fanbase has been requesting for years.

...WoW races need to stay in WoW. Not interested and if that was their plan I'd be very vexed about it. I'm purposefully waiting to preoder Shadowbringers to see what ends up happening at the fanfest. I don't care if I miss the EXP boost earrings since the jobs I like playing are already at 70. Either give me male Viera, or I'll go spend my money on something else. From what I understand some WoW races are actually unlockable through quests, and if that's how we get male Viera then I might be ok with it depending on how time consuming that would be. God help them if they try gender locking classes next. I swear I'll delete my account if they make Dancer female only.

Lalafell males only- only they can draw the gil showers dancer demands! XD. More seriously though a gender locked job would be a hilarious and terrifying mistake, like "wot...? who's driving this ship? I thought we had a job system because we all loved playing all the jobs on one character..?".

What do you mean WoW races need to stick in WoW though? I mean I've been dying for a beast race for a long time, is that a WoW race? Or do you mean like.. Tauren/Orc? Because if any non-pretty/fabulous race is a WoW race then imma have to say FFXIV please add WoW races! But if you're saying Orc-sy and Tauren then yeah, they belong in WoW we don't need a Troll like they have. But players from WoW who liked those "other" visuals don't really have that in FFXIV unless Hrothgar is what we might think in a "Ronso" like race, in which case it's still more fabulous than WoW's but far more towards that "other" than say Viera, Roe (he gets really fabulous, trust me lol), and others.

Also about unlocking race, for the Allied Races as far as I understand it you can unlock them like you unlock the heroic jobs like Death Knight (Arthas) and Demon Hunter (Illidan). Alts are far more encouraged in WoW than in this game though, so that system works a bit better there. I don't think it could work here unless the quest also offered a Fantasia at the end... in which case I guess it could?

Yeah the really exaggerated races like Tauren and Trolls don't need to be in this game. They would stick out like a sore thumb in FFXIV, while the races we have now more or less fit together. I would prefer for FFXIV races to be more on the human side, which I think they can do for a Ronso-like race since they aren't that far away from what we already have except in the face and horn. FFXIV doesn't need to be a copy of WoW with really cartoonish races, and it doesn't need to take after FFXI with its gender locked races.

If male Viera were unlockable via a quest that gives fantasia at the end, I would be ok with that since it means I don't have to spend any extra money to change into one. But how would a quest like that work though? Would we have to fight bosses or grind reputation like for beast tribes?

Please, no. I actually took a pause on playing WoW's current expansion because I was spending time playing their previous expansion unlocking allied races that required the content from that previous expansion.

That said, in FFXIV, the fact that you can use jump potion to skip main story quests as well as being able to use all jobs in one character with any race would make such a concept easier to do than in WoW. Still, I'd prefer not having to do that with race.

It's not the same thing as the heroic classes. You actually have to play the game and do the specified content to unlock a particular allied race and not just boost your character to meet a level requirement.

Playing all jobs as one character is one of the main features which sets this game apart from its competitors, so gender or race locking jobs would be a colossal mistake. I don't think we need to worry about it happening.

Restricting game play based on the look of your character is not at all the same thing as restricting players from combining some cosmetic options. Muscle sliders have always been race locked and it doesn't mean we will get a muscle locked job some day, lol. They are just not related.

    Some things came to mind,
Unlocking gender locked gear which is very minor took nearly 3 years due to uncomfortableness from the devs but held a decent sized thread for awhile
Blu being limited has a big thread and many smaller threads asking for changes (this is far more impactful as content than a race's gender)
Potential for gender locked races creates one of the biggest threads in 2 weeks (bigger than Blu) while we are a minority it is very telling how well this is going to be received at Tokyo fan fest should it happen

Limited jobs weren't a thing until they announced it
Gender locked races aren't a thing till they announce it
Gender locked jobs are the next step up and won't be a thing till they announce it
We have to as players draw the line somewhere it should've been the limited job concept, definitely needs to be gender locked races, god help them if they do gender locked jobs and they would if they keep getting away with this stuff

I doubt that WoW is the reason for a potential bestial race. We already have one in the form of Raen and Xaela. Chances are a potential second bestial race would still be largely human in terms of their features but boast a few animal traits to make them more distinct. There has also been quite a lot of people asking for more masculine options for character customisation over the years. So it isn't as if the demand isn't there.
