He wants people to be on edge going into Tokyo fan fest.
If they're going to announce a new race, when people are already expecting 'something', then keeping 'male viera' as a possible option gives us doubt as to what to expect.
Eliminate male Viera before announcing the new race, and people are already on the defensive and already forming negative opinions on what is obviously a new race before its even announced, which is exactly what's going on due to this leak.
They need the new race to soften the blow of no male viera, and they need to save something big for Tokyo fan fest.

People will be on the defensive regardless, the only thing that folks would be the least defensive about is if they came out with two races - if Hrothgar is legit - that isn't gender locked.

I can't even imagine male Viera being locked due to the where we're going and the plot of the burning of the wood - I just can't imagine how the writers are going to have it be without it being half-arsed.

With Hrothgar they can just throw it in there, but lame writing is lame writing.

If they didn't want the male Viera they should have written that in the lore to the point that Viera's reproduce asexually or thy wood magic. They really didn't need to add a male. Just like all of the other games didn't need to have males in their lore - I honestly never understood the point of it unless you wanted to expand upon that in the future.

Or they could have just skipped the insane amount of drama this has generated and given players what we specifically have been asking for instead of throwing us a curveball. If he comes onstage and presents Hrothgar instead of male Viera all hell will probably break loose and we'd have our own version of the Diablo Immortals announcement but for FFXIV. I don't care about how Tactics and FF12's lore was-this is FFXIV-and if they removed the genderlock for Galka/Roegadyn and Mithra/Miqote then they better not gender lock whatever other races they add next.

This is not anyone's head canon. Go look at the Viera trailer and you can see that their native area is the Greatwood, which is implied to be a subsection of the Golmore Jungle. If you have so much respect for lore from previous games why are you playing a male cat? Go change into Roegadyn or something because if we follow your way of thinking then you're breaking everyone else's game experience. Go on and stay true to your word.

It's okay, they flat out ignored me pointing out that Keeper males are just as, if not more, rare than Viera males.

Right? It's been only two weeks and already this thread is one of the longest ones I've seen on the forums. I imagine though, that after fanfest if there is no male Viera, we'll get an even longer thread requesting them to be put into the game.

Concocted my own headcanon? What? No dude, I just read the lore. Unless Yoshida is just showing us one small forest fire that has no tie into the war; was just someone carelessly flicking their pipe ash onto some dry wood.

I think you're so deep into this male Viera 'movement' if we can call it that, that you've lost perspective.
There won't be as big of an outcry as you've implied, some, but in no way comparable to Diablo Immortal.

No, it wont be that bad. But it will ding the game. It will get coverage that most likely wont be all that favorable for ShB. Since were still in the pre-order phase of the game, you will see cancellations regarding it adn it will hamstring some of the hype. Again, consider a marketing perspective : Would you, a game dev, Go against what your fans want and introduce something that will directly impact the hype being generated for your upcoming xpac all because of superficial lore that is kinda flimsy at best?

If they gender lock, hype will die down and youll get more volitility, regardless of what hrothgar are. Theres no hype in hrothgar currently among the fan base. No in game mentions except via glitches and subtle retcons, no mention of them from any previous Fan Fests, no artwork or dialogue regarding them from devs. Theyre all but a ghost of a rumor at this stage. You would be killing a hype train and expectation that has a part of the player base enthusiastic about the xpac just for a bait and switch that no one was really asking for and has no hype behind it. Would you think that would be a good move?

I will support people to want male viera if that happens but lets say it was literally ronso . . I'd be so hyped XD. H Y P E ! Now with our given information they're probably not literally Ronso, but lion-like and "sort of Ronso like". Besides if the other race was locked (if it's a thing, seems likely but we don't have a 100%er) then I bet a female version of that would be pretty great to have.

I think it would be best if SE gets a negative reaction about no male viera, if that's a thing, and I assume they would get some amount, that they then should very quickly give a coy "Viera's story isn't over, please look forward to it ". And be sure to work male viera into 6.0.

I'm not saying people who want male viera would be like "YES, SE THATS IT!" lol, clearly releasing them at the same time is what someone who wanted male Viera wants, but I imagine you would take a huge momentum hit out of the hate train that might happen from no male viera.

Not saying there wont be male viera, just to be clear to anyone thinking I'm saying that - just suggesting SE has the ability (I think) to cause a significant cut out of any rage if they quickly played into the hate like "Ah ah ah.. We're not done~!" lol.
