    Job aesthetic / lore

I always try to imagine the aesthetics and concept behind the job before starting to play.
Warrior i always imagine like a someone who is crude and careless, who trusts only in own strength... while paladin would be someone with more techniques and training

Most of the job NPC looks like this, but i have found some NPC different. like Alka Zolka (which appear in the scholar job quest): Warrior and Historian! Something incredible, but in the lore itself says how much he was ridiculed because of it.

That is, maybe it is not just my prejudice with the job (When I say warrior is "unrefined", in techniques and tactics) ... the game itself demonstrates the job in such a way.

Several other jobs also see something similar, like MCH is not considered reliable work by the Ishigardians. These things devalue the job in my opinion.

Sometimes the job story is what makes me want to play with it.

what you think, guys? I'm being very strict with the lore?

For MCH, don't you prove yourself to Ishgard and the one noble house trying to stop you throughout the quests?

There are certain stereotypes to each job, sure. But one thing to remember when it comes to RP is that your character is an individual, not just a homogenized collection of stereotypes and cultural norms.

I would imagine that yeah, warriors in general probably rely on raw strength and rage while a paladin's techniques are probably in general more refined...but that doesn't necessarily mean that pertains to every single individual. So you don't necessarily have to stick to it in your own headcanon.

Marauder and historian, to be exact - though I would love to see the WAR and SCH quest lines overlap. (They're prettymuch asking for it. Marauders in the SCH quest and a healer-arcanist in the WAR quest... and both active around Bronze Lake during Heavensward.)

The MCH questline is very much about the job slowly gaining recognition as more than a novelty, as the machinists demonstrate their success in battle - even despite Tedalgrinche's efforts to sabotage them. They're improving the reputation of House Haillenarte as well.

I think it could be seen from a few different directions. Everyone has different impressions of what jobs "mean" and what personalities are attracted to them - some more different than others. And this can diverge even more if people try to make the outfit fit their understanding of not only the world, but their character. I would imagine there's more overlap for "this definitely doesn't fit" than "this is what fits." and then the fun vanishes as people try to impose "correct lore" on one another, lol.

When I slap a glamour on Moose, I try to pick something that takes his past and experiences into account, too. Maybe he wore that Nymian AF for a couple weeks, but he was engaging a new experience and trying for authenticity (or whatever). "Getting his head in the game."

And since 2013 / 2014 I've been slightly modifying the same outfit he fell into - a Nymian mortarboard for easy identification (because he's short), a Lominsan bliaud because it's modern, functional, and had long been associated with the Knights of the Barracuda (Lominsa's military, not Nym's), whatever pants and boots best fit the bliaud but look like I could walk in them anywhere without worry for his feet, and fingerless gloves so he can still put finger to page and write with dexterity. All in jet black because ... uh ... I'm not even gonna front: h*ck yeah black, purple, and silver trim.

I put a lot of effort into it "fitting scholar" but also fitting the personality I think attracts scholars, and Moose himself. But I expect someone out there thinks that's bogus.

I LOVE this. I definitely think that the jobs themselves (traditional ones at least) do a pretty good job of staying true to their established lore. I absolutely love to see other players who view their characters in a very lore-centric way (even if it only fits their personal lore). I try very hard to make my glams stick within a specific theme, straying occasionally for events or because I want to try something new. Hax has a very Thavnairian/ Skallic ethnic vibe to his lore so I try to weave a mix of Indian, Persian and even Greecian designs. I like my glams to be appropriate for the job he is playing, but try to push his personal aesthetic to the forefront creating a mesh of his culture with his personality and his job.

I love when other people take special care to tailor their characters to their own personal lore. It really helps to make the world feel diverse and authentic.

I'm just hoping in 5.0 paladins get to do something helpful.

ARR was okay. Had the neat moral at the end about the sword not ultimately mattering.

HW: Oh wait the sword does matter and here's a convoluted conspiracy to get it to glow again.

SB: Whoops we made a gladiator story instead.

I'd like to do something neat with that other free paladin we help gear out in HW next time.

This is by the way one of the things I hated in HW. None of the ninja gear really looked like ninja gear.

I liked the HW artifact set and the first bit of gear that was a good ninja set...but yeah, not a lot of Scouting gear actually looks like ninja gear outside of AF sets. Though on the other hand, one would think ninjas don't often advertise that they're ninjas so in a way wearing other stuff fits too.
