Instead of NPCing all those Dodo Feathers, you can prematurely price them and once a spot opens, they automatically go up. It also potentially works well for crafters who need those odds and ends now and then.
yeah, they were supposed to, but i have yet to see mine leave the wards. it would effect this if it read it as being active. once one item sold and another went in it would possibly look at the retainer as you had actively worked on it.

my thing with the keeping up with the retainer is a 2 part issue.

    (1) if you put up let's say 20 items by the time those items go up for sale they will likely be the highest price on the server with the amount of undercutting that goes on.

    (2) it would give more an opportunity for the rmt to overtake the wards. they could always send bots out to farm day in and day out and put up the entire retainers worth of slots for sale at the same price(which nobody could undercut). they would then only have to sign in once a week to clear the gil off and throw another full retainer worth of items up. it would allow them to effectively corner a market with nobody having a chance to compete with the bots.

if you obsessively keep up with the retainer you know that just overnight you will be undercut and only half the items you put up sell. what it'd wind up with is tons of retainers up with no chance to sell any item because they go up automatically and it would keep others from being able to place up their goods.

i'm not against some sort of reform i just look at that as being a short term answer that could cause more of a long term issue. if there was a way to do this and bypass the issues(like only allow them to update for 24-48 hours without manually updating) i could see it as a rational idea. it could go as far as you could only put up 10 other items as long as they vary from the original 10 and you have to rent a stall for 48 hours to have access to that. after the 48 hours that retainer would automatically come down until it's repaid.

the idea you are suggesting would be fine for a general idea, but as far as ready to implement we have to consider the downsides along with the good parts it could have. those issues need to be fleshed out before it's ready to go into the game.
