The problem with Parlay, is that it doesn't give you anything worth getting and it isn't available against nearly every NPC in the game.

They need to expand on Parlay,

Give it the ability to return specific targeted rewards.
Make difficulty = the amount of return(hard = more quantity back)
    Give it multiple purposes
    Take it out of quests
Make nearly every NPC in the game have some reason to Parlay(Lowering NPC Prices, Raise Selling prices, Making Gil, Betting One Item Agaianst another)

This game should never remove anything no matter how simple or useless it seems. We should only be adding things and Expanding the purpose of thing that have been implemented.
I agree with your ideas that it could be used with other NPCs (if a different or drastically improved version)- concept sounds good. Dont know if I agree that things should never be removed. They have removed/completely changed quite a few things in this game for the better, although not the purpose of this thread to debate. In 2.0 they are changing entire maps.

They have been removing things, but only b y replacing them with new things.

GA is being removed in favor of rested XP

Maps are being Removed in favor of new maps.

I'm not oposed to them remaking parlay, but they should not simply remove it from the game.

Fine I'll meet you halfway and say "remove and replace with a completely new and different, faster more challenging version of Parley" They can keep the name, although the stigma will remain... Que ghost sounds...

I don't like parley. It is bland and boring. I would not miss it if it were removed.

One thing I'd like is if the mechanics were changed to more accurately reflect negotiating. They already have each NPC have unique tiles to them, but they still wind up being a fairly random assortment of topics, like bringing up fire crystals and blacksmith hammers when trying to get a miner to pose for me. The topics brought up should be relevant to the goal, and they could also implement score bonuses for bringing them up in a logical progression. So, for the aforementioned example, getting a bonus for bringing up the miner's good looks, then goldsmith inspirations, followed by the permanence of jewelry, to tell the miner that they look great and could inspire a goldsmith to use her image as an everlasting tribute.

I'll agree with this. Parley lacks a bit in thought processing. Not a bad thing, but it doesn't dish out many visuals either. If there is anyway to change the rules, make a new game, or up the visuals, make the game shorter, that would really help the game. Maybe something that resembles the thoughts of characters more visually. I agree with the matching aspect of the game. At the same time, not very important at the moment. I only remember playing parley once or twice in the storyline. Also, I'm pretty sure everyone wants an ff8 or ff9 card game implemented into the game.

It just needs refinement, and let the players do it against each other!

The choices take too long to load and such...so it's a pain.

Parley is fine, just needs a good AI adjustment to make it harder as others said.

They could make the AI as hard as they want, it would never be challenging. As mentioned before, the best you can do is pick the tile that nets you the highest value. The random factor renders strategic thinking pointless.

So unless you're having trouble adding up low numbers and picking the highest sum, the game itself will always be nothing more but tedium.
