That's what clear parties are for. In fact, a clear party will accept anyone that cleared even if they had gray parse. The main issue is joining farm parties [Duty Complete] while you lack the experience. That's where people look at your logs to know you're not gonna trap them.

Furthermore, the practice that people need to start with is their class rotations on training dummies and especially the SSS dummies. If a player can't beat the SSS dummy for the current duty they want to tackle, then they shouldn't join for that duty until they improve. That is the official way SE tells you that you need to improve more or get better gear and melds. This is the first step in building experience.

Nobody cares about logs unless they're running really specific PF parties, like the ones that ask for 99% players, or while recruiting for statics.

The number one breaker of statics is usually having players who aren't of equal skill level. It gets really frustrating when your group is being capped by a player that takes much longer than the others to get the hang of mechanics for instance. And that's where FFLOGS comes in during the recruiting process. So yeah unless the static is a lower tier one, most statics will expect you to have a log presence (at the very least in ex trials, preferably in savage).

People will usually look at the context based on your class. If you're a healer it's stuff like, how much did you heal, how much did your co-healer heal, how many people died, who, what's your APM, what was your dps as a result, etc. If your APM is decent and you're looking to get better most statics will be fine recruiting one tier bellow that of their members. If they parse blue, you parsing green is fine. If they parse orange purples are fine, etc... Just don't expect to make it into an orange party with green parses.

There's nothing inherently toxic about it at all. If you're worried people will judge you based on your parses that's mostly on you because most people don't care unless enrage without deaths is a real issue. There's also a pretty easy fix, practice.

And that is really one of the main uses of logs. It is a hard copy of the time line of the fight. You can look at the whole fight and pick out mistakes you are making. Like oh I am letting my dot drop off to many times, or my Raid buff is drifting a bit I need to tighten that up etc. You can also look at logs of people who are doing better than you, (just not the top top players in your job as they are most of the time being padded. I say look at the 85%-90% or so) and look at what they may be doing different from you and use that information to better your self. I would say fflogs is more about bettering yourself and your team as a whole then to use it to call out people with. Not to many people are going to care about your logs unless you are trying to get in statics or you are messing up in farm parties.

Pretty much this. The site is reading data and making public what would otherwise have a far more constrained audience. If you believe in a right to privacy, this data collection runs counter to that.

If the person in question isn't doing any of that content, why bother?

No one bothers to check the logs of those that don't do that kind of high end content. Those that are upset here (excluding OP lol) are upset because they don't want to be held accountable for dragging a party down for their low performance in these high end content. And also because they don't want to accept the fact that the collected data is not their private data anymore, since they have given up every right to it to SE by agreeing on FFXIV's TOS.

Answering to main post, FFLogs itself, both program and website, aren't toxic. They are just providing you counts that you can use for analyzing your results. Or you can don't do this if you don't wish to.

What is toxic is community and that's the problem in minds, not in program. And if anybody harasses you for your logs in game - you are free to report them because they break at least two points of ToS with speaking about your DPS itself (so saying aloud they use 3d party tool) and also for harassment.

You know what they say: One bad apple spoils the bunch.

And even if the bad apples are few and far between, there sure is a heck of a lot more than one of them.

To be fair, if you want to remain private then you shouldn't be playing a public game and just stick to single player games. Your entire character profile is on the lodestone for all to see after all.
