pls squer, give us a fishing tackle box

I know Fisher isnt the most popular gathering class BUT as a fisher I would love to get a tackle box. Right now I use my chocobo saddle bag for that, but it would be nice to have an option not to fill up my inventory / saddle bag. We have quite a lot fishing tackles, a storage just for that would be most helpful.

They said a while back that they can't make a tackle box without "locking up" inventory space that could otherwise be used to store any kind of item. So it's unlikely that they'll implement it instead of giving us more general storage.

I'd rather just see bait consolidated into much fewer pieces. Fishing is so stupidly complicated in part because there are a million baits and lures, some of which are only used in one or two specific places (magma), and no way of knowing which one you'll need at any given time for any given fish, let alone happen to have it on you.

I'd make it four baits per expansion. One each 'leveling' bait and lure, and one each level cap (scripts) bait and lure. Adjusting all the current fish to match it. No more of this 'fill your entire saddlebag with bait just in case' BS.

I thought the saddlebag was a tackle-box compromise. Not everyone fishes, but everyone can use the extra space. Consolidating lures & baits would make much more sense.

The Saddlebag isn't the best thing to use as you have to keep removing stuff from it that you want to use, much like a retainer. One easy solution is to just make a new seperate tab in the Armoury Chest which is only for fishing tackle/bait. That way it's easily accessible wherever you are when fishing, but whether such a thing could be implemented is always a much different story.

How often are you changing bait/lure that chocobo saddlebag becomes a hassle? At least saddlebag you can access anywhere out in the open world. I would imagine tackle box would work the same way in that you have to take bait or lures out of it into your regular inventory before you can use it. Would probably be better if SE was able to find a way to use items directly from saddlebag since that would be the same as a saddlebag.

We don't actually use bait directly from our regular inventory, though, even though it has to be stored there. Bait is selected using the "Bait" skill that brings up a separate window of our available baits/lures. What people want is for that Bait window to itself represent the storage in sort of the way the currency window represents storage of multiple currency types. We don't want there to be actual "items" involved. Essentially, treat baits like a type of currency.

(Well, for crafted ones, there would have to be an intermediate item that you'd craft, and then "use" to add it to your bait currency. But while fishing, we'd just use the ones in our Bait window and not the ones that are still items.)

The thing is that specific storage can be a lot more efficient. The space it would take up to give us a tackle box for all 61 types of bait would probably be about the size of just one item slot, maybe two. Using one or two slot's worth of space to save sixty-one slots is a win.

You don't pick it from the inventory yourself, but the game is still accessing those items from your main inventory. The Bait window just seems to search your inventory for baits as an easier way of seeing what you have available.

There's a difference between what you theoretically can do with storage, and what this game can do. Its inventory is notoriously awkwardly programmed, and due to past statements they've made, it may not be possible to condense those baits down to be "non-items".

On top of their specific statement about not being able to create a tacklebox without locking up inventory spaces (which I don't have a link for), there's this post from one of the UI programmers which gives a bit of insight into the convoluted ways they have to work around issues caused by their own past decisions.

    - item slots are treated in "groups" (previously 25, now 35, as reflected in "pages" of inventories)
    - the number of groups in our main inventory can't be increased without a lot of reprogramming, because an early decision in how data is organised now makes it difficult to expand.
    - this is why we now have "alternate" inventories like the saddlebag and glamour dresser, which are stored in a different location.

See also: the glamour dresser programming, which essentially works "on top of" the pre-existing glamour system without trying to change anything about how that process works.

There could be some similar deep-seated programming issues regarding how fishing uses bait items.

thing is if people got a tackle box people would start demanding a separate storage for miner/botany gathering items too or a crafting chest to keep crafting mats in.

No, give use the space that potentially gets added as extra inventory so it's useful for non fishers too.
And if se takes away regular inventory for a box I would really be pissed.
I do have noticed that you don't need all of the baits and lures to get all the fish. May not be the most efficient.
Also do you go fishing for so many different types of fish at once that you need all those baits with you?
