Anyone else want a black mage race from Final Fantasy IX?

Black mages are autonomous, man-sized magician dolls mass-produced as weapons of war by Queen Brahne of Alexandria due to Kuja's influence. Final Fantasy IX is the only game that has black mages as a distinct race, rather than a job.

Black mages' faces are dark with two glowing eyes and they always wear the distinctive steepled hat. The most prominent black mage in the game is Vivi Ornitier, who joins the player's party in the beginning.
Black mages are created from Mist to be the soulless magical arm of their master. They are similar to the Genomes in being artificially produced organisms. Kuja's teaching Queen Brahne how to manufacture them is implied to be due to his knowledge on how Genomes are made. The Final Fantasy IX Ultimania explains that the black mages differ from the Genomes in that they are made out of Gaian elements, whereas Genomes are made out of Terran elements.[1]

mammets are chibi-sized versions of blm race, black mage race are same size of Hyur/human/humanoid/whatever.

I think Lala's are probably the race most associated with black magic and thaumaturgy. Mamets are constructs and not actually living creatures. some of them have sentience but that all depends on their creators and the materials used.

I think the closest thing to what OP is wanting is in the Heavensward Hildibrand quest line

If SE ever does a allied race spree like WoW just started lol then yeah absolutely! But in the depth of a normal race like "hyur" or "viera" I just can't see it happening lol. Like if we got a special clan blast for all the races and one of them for lala was vivi race that'd be pretty cool imo, lore could be they are from the magic sister city of uldah that had the dark magic incident (cursed city residents).

I would say no because there's almost no customizable options. Everyone would be identical.

When I was playing FFIX, I was rather uncertain about whether Vivi is actually supposed to look the way we see him, or if it's just a weird high-res take on the classic black mage sprite.

Mainly, there's that whole running debate about whether he's really human - and if he actually looks like that, then surely the answer is "clearly not"?

Perhaps the word is being used in the loose way that this game's translators try to avoid, where (I understand) the Japanese version calls the player-races "human" and the English version substitutes "men" or "mortals".

But it still makes me think that perhaps the other characters aren't seeing the black-shadowed 'monster' we see in the game's art style, but someone who looks human (even though he actually isn't).

If we're consistently trying to pull classes in from other games, I'm putting forward the Aion Cleric.
A sword and board healing class, that also has the option of a two handed weapon when some mobs just require dps.

People can say if I like this class so much then go and play the game. Well that's precisely my response to those who keep quoting IX, XI, or whatever.

The 'classic' Black Mage design is already echoed in the BLM AF1 set design, and the designs for the mammets (the clockwork automatons made in Ul'dah that are often used for menial tasks). In fact, FFIX's Vivi actually appears in the HW Hildibrand questline as an actual mammet complete with his FFIX appearence (he gets around with the name 'Gigi', but it's stated his real name is literally Vivi), and you even get him as a minion at the end of the quest line.

Also the 'Minion of Light' minion previously offered as a Veteran Reward for subscribing for a certain length of time in the game has as one of it's random appearences the classic FFI Black Mage sprite (along with Fighter and White Mage), so I'm afraid you are not going to see FFIX's Black Mage race here I'm sorry.
