[dev1000] the begining of the game ,implement tutorial and help for the player

    Hi everybody ^^
Time is running and now there s a lot of high rank players and i think we forgot a bit how we start the game . I ve not seen so many threads about the implement of tutorials and help for new players.

    So here we go !

Here is the few things i ve noticed :

    - the fact that we got to go to lodestone to learn how to play the game is not mention anywhere after we start the game and i think that s not a very immersive system lol.

    - the lack of trackers for the quest area and for the pnc who give the quests. Moreover tracker who already exist should be put on the map without passing by the journal.

-there is no low level cause you can improve from rank 0 to rank 20-25 in one big afternoon i think that if they slow down the progression they could take more time to present the world and to teach how it works.

-that s more personal but i find that the begining for the different area where you start are inequal.

There are more stuffs to tell but i think these are well to begin this thread . i hope a lot of people will share ideas

Really? 1-25 in one afternoon. Hmm maybe I am doing something wrong, it took me like 3 weeks to get from 1 -25, but again I did leves and crafting. But I duoed from 18-21 and it still took almost the entire day. We just grinded Antelopes in the Black Shroud, maybe that was the issue.
I really don't know how big of an issue the tutorial/non-tutorial issue is. Pretty much, I dunno if they changed the plot quests since the launch, but Momodi (Ul'dah) pretty much sent me to all the guilds and whatnot and the game was fairly easy to figure out. The only real issue I had was that it took me a week or two to realize I could use Thaumaturge abilities on my lancer, etc. But I should have figure out alot soon since i seen a level 14 gladiator running around casting sacrifice on herself. I mean there are alot of things that you figure out just by playing around with things, I am not sure what would need to be explained in great detail, other than maybe a marketward tutorial, but even it was fairly straight forward.

What I would like to see is the "J" button be used to open the journal.

a basic tutorial would be nice if it is lore based.
ffxi added one I plated through it and I loved it.... (even though i knew the game lol) It was easy to follow, easy to read, and you got rewards for doing it. It was pretty much a 1-10 guide telling you the game, where the AH was and basic questing. rewards were
gil 1000, 1800 exp, food, free exp ring, reraise earing, 3 choco trial passes .

what it taught was skill points, weapons skills, skill chains.
crafting, where the AH was and used for, basic leveling.
And how aggro worked in ffxi.

pretty much it was ffxi boot camp.

We don't need a tutorial, learn it yourself, it makes you and the community a little bit better. Thinking on your own seems to be a minority in games anymore these days.

yeah your right ,it also occured to me that not having tutorial push you to do things on your own and to talk with other players to share experience in game is a good way too learn and play but some players might be shy or stuff like that .
Moreover when your a total noob the game doesnt explain the different fonctions and how to talk with other players.

Regular events mixing high ranks and new players or low ranks to share stuffs and exp could be great too but regarding the actual speed of progression during the 25 first ranks ...
The problem is that you re still a noob when you get rank 20...

A number of MMO's I've tried have put me off simply because I feel locked out. Like tossing a baby in a pool and telling it to swim!

XIV was fairly easy to get into for me, since I've played XI for so long, but all was quite confusing to start with and I didn't have a clue what was really going on the first few hours.

I'm all for a more inspiring introduction to the game

it s true some of the introductions coud be more immersive ! Plus there is some dialogues that miss informations and you got to look in the journal that the PNC told you to go there and find someone who will give you something which will ... and so on.

There is also not enough real story quests after each introductions who give you the feeling your entering a grand new world !
i think that each class should have a real noob story quest cause waiting a higher rank to start quest for a class you began without knowing what you can do with it is not very inspiring (there is also the fact that you can t do lot of personalised stuffs with each class which is a problem but it s for another thread)

I find it a little ironic you talk about tutorials to learn to play the game, but even though there is a sticky on dev tags you still did it completely wrong in both areas.

You're not supposed to put dev tags in titles nore are you supposed to put [ ] in the tag area.

It seems even if the information is right infront of you people still dont learn.

hah i was just being a bit sarcastic, I agree there should be a lot more tutorials, even the tutorial guildleves isnt as obvious as it should be. It should be automatically loaded as the first one if its your first time leve.
