Will Apartment owners ever be able to crossbreed plants?

So yeah. I wanna be able to grow Thavnarian Onions to level my Chocobo however, outside the MB, the only way to get seeds for these onions is via Crossbreeding.

But, crossbreeding is limited to garden plots as you need to have multiple plants growing together in order for the mechanic to function (While we can have multiple pots in an apartment, they are independent of each other so won't have an effect)

With only Free Companies and House owners able to have a garden plot.

Apartment owners are stuck only having their pots which won't function for crossbreeding...

So, is there any chance of like a double-pot or something? Even if it only has 2 spaces for plants (Compared to gardens 4/6/8 spaces) it would at least allow those people not lucky enough/rich enough to own a house the capacity to crossbreed.

I remember reading somewhere that part of why they don't have crossbreeding with apartments has something to do with the way the weather is coded, but I have no idea how valid that is. I wish they would give us cross breeding inside apartments. They could do some really neat things with a wall mounted garden plot with 2-4 slots on it. It would visually be nice at least. They already put in those hanging plants, it wouldn't be all too different from that. Again, for all we know, it's some weird coding thing, but I still find that to be a weak excuse at best.

Unfortunately, best you can hope for right now is to try to find a friend you trust, or fc, and see if you can use the garden in their house.

Agreed that they could make a wall planter which would allow for crossbreeding. Definitely like that idea! It could be like a hydroponic setup, or a window planter style with multiple levels so as to not take up as much room.

The weather? But weather doesn't even affect plants.

I wonder if it has to do with not wanting to let players cross-breed more than their plot would normally allow. If apartments get access to a furnishing for indoor cross planting, then houses would too. Not that I care but maybe SE does.

If SE gave apartments balconies from the beginning this issue wouldn't exist. Sigh.

It probably has to do with the way plants are tended with the weather (watering in normal weather vs plucking in rainy weather). It feels like they made some rather obscure choices as to what gets tethered to other systems and for some reason can't just pull those variables in other spaces. If 3rd party sites can pull weather variables, anywhere inside the game should too and it shouldn't block feature progression. Or, just copy that portion of the code for indoor use but hatchet off the weather portion and just have it use the watering animation always.

Give apartments an allotment that share the weather conditions as the zone, why doesn't SE do this?

This was in a live letter or interview a few months ago. It wasn't the weather but the coding for intercrossing is embedded in the coding for overworld environments, houses and apartments are instances and don't have access to the overworld environment code. The coding for planting is handled differently so we can plant but not intercross in our apartments. Its one of those things they'd like to do but technical limitations, workload, etc means it won't be anytime soon.

A big part of why people riot about housing is because of the lack of features. I really think that if they gave apartments the same things as personal homes that would go a long way. I definitely support this.

Larger apartments would also help people out as well.

maybe a better option would be to add a market garden zone/s in Gridania that allows anyone to pay for a small plot to grow plants over a time period or till not used for a time period
then there is no ties to housing and the kettle of worms that are tied to it

I mean ul'dah has the gold saucer and limsa has the wolves den so why not a community garden zone in gridania

In favor of this! Or, if they wanted to keep it tied to housing somehow, it could be part of the apartment setup instead of in Gridania, and you just need to own an apartment to use it (much like the chocobo stable there).
