I have a feeling that it wont be politically driven, it's tag line is "it's not just for couples!" lol. Maybe someone feels that "female friends showing affection to each other" is that big of a story but it feels sort of normal to me. I'd have been shocked if it was all men, and all platonic "you know I really appreciate you dude, hugs and dinner date later" - while not being drunk lol. Keeping in mind we haven't even seen the story yet, it could be many things right now.

Even if it was non-standard I could imagine they could tell a story without it being political, FFXIV has already done both non-standard and it wasn't blunt (imo not everything is political, that's just emotionally draining). Not a fan of blunt "lemme teach you how to think" stories, even if I agree with them. Anyway, I doubt it'll be that.

We only have to wait a few more days to see, I'm more curious on why a dark knight sword and a culinary secondary tool reward were picked O_o.

I can't speak for the 2017 event, but the valentione's event usually has some fun stories.

Hopefully they don't start pushing politically driven agendas all over the place. I just want to play a fun game and not have the game tell me all the time "look at these gay people, they are so gay, you should accept them and be gay too."

I wouldn't mind SE turning Valentine's into a waifu holiday if Little Ladies Day didn't already exist with no celebration for boys... Hi, I play this game and I am sick of cute girl/waifu culture, please stop putting more of it in the game than there already is.

As for the rewards my sub is stopped so I probably won't resub for them unless I do some math and the resub time matches up with the next bit of the 4.5x content drop. I don't really mind Valentine's having less awesome rewards since we got nice gear from the Christmas event, but I do wonder how a DRK weapon and a CUL off-hand were determined to be the rewards... wouldn't something usable by everyone like a choker be better?

But in all seriousness the story will probably be able heartbreak due to the blades mostly due to the tonberry one.. But definitely gotta wait..

Also that DRK is becoming the poster boy for the next expansion maybe they were thinking people would be leveling that class up in perp for it?

This made me laugh. I think that would be a little bit awkward for some men here in the states "Hey bubba! I just got to say I love you man!" I know I would be a little bit like "uhm..thanks?"

Most Asian cultures are pretty open about those things I recall watching men in Singapore holding fingers ( not hands) as they walked down the street. Like you say we don't know the story. It could be about a Dark Knight Highlander guy loving a lalafell chef...

I intend to come back of course- I have a burning need to know how the Hildibrand arc ends. But I won't resub early just to catch this event since it seems pretty meh with the rewards. The advertising being all girls with nary a boy in sight only hurts it's image IMO. If we're following some NPCs around helping them find love or cope with heartbreak, can I at least help a generically cute guy instead of a generically cute girl?

I had a Korean friend who touched me (not bad like it sounds lol) and it took me while to not mentally fire up "I AM BOY, U BOY, NO TOUCH". Since I knew the intent was well meaning I just decided to get over it and adapt than tell them to stop, besides it wasn't so far as hand holding just way more in my bubble than I was used to (because they liked me, which was cool cause I thought they were too lol).

Definitely in the states though there are things I see girls do that I just cant fathom seeing the other way around without like at least a whisper of "you like the man, yes? this isn't platonic sanctioned activity" lol, like I regularly saw girls in high school exchange stuff for valentines or just be that extra step of friendly (like touching, again not pervy lol). I think everyone would have talked about it if two guys shared a chair and exchanged chocolates. Of course thats a while ago so what I think is normal or not is probably a bit different from those currently in school, and where as you said seems to be Asians (or at least some Asian cultures) are more open to male bonding (location, age, etc).

I still feel it's unlikely the event is going to explore some cultural issue (or present it in a "lesson teaching" manner even if it does), but maybe we can all come back and be like OMG WOW can you believe they wrote that (good or bad lol).. in like 7 days .

I would not mind a "bro appreciation" valentione's event just to freshen things up from the usual romantic parings. They're slowly easing up on things and making it more platonic over the years.

So you got me wondering. So I went back looking up each of the Valentione’s Day promos till 2015 and it looks like every other year has guys in it. (ok granted two had blank faced generic guys and one was a wedding couple but still!) So Next year should have dudes! Maybe.

Failing that Find you a cute guy and follow HIM around as he follows the cute girl around!
