Also, gives us the ability to communicate with others despite not actually speaking 90% of the timeI like to think that another aspect of our personal Echo is that it subconsiously encourages people to trust us and tell us their life stories... and more importantly be inclined to take us at our word and entrust us with important tasks or information, or believe us when we are telling the truth but the evidence isn't all that convincing.
It explains a lot of the wonkier bits of storytelling, if nothing else.![]()
I feel Elidibus is counting on pushing us past our limits again in our coming confrontation...though I doubt that's going to be a good thing with all the doom and gloom we've been getting from that voice about that.
I haven't gotten to the part in-game yet, but I did hear something kinda neat on this. Apparently with the Echo/Hydaelyn's blessing, WoL can hear and understand any other living soul... but only through direct, face-to-face contact. So ex. Yugiri writes a letter in Doman to the WoL. For all she and the WoL know, they were able to converse fluently in Doman for their entire adventure across the nation. But WoL opens the letter and can't read anything whatsoever.
This makes me suspect there might be some very specific mechanic in mind behind how the WoL works (I don't think it's just the Echo at this point) and it allows for ridiculous strength but also very deliberate and particular limits. Idk if it'll happen, but wouldn't be surprised if Shadowbringers examined the limits and nature of the WoL more. Devs seem to be allowing a lot of room for expansion and this is a really fun question that I wouldn't expect them to pass up.
I think with the whole language bit it's not just spoken but also written as we seem to do fine reading things unless the story pulls a "this is even older/different dialect than you're used to" thing in where we need someone to translate. Or like with Alpha they're a construct of an alien that for whatever reason doesn't know Eorzean even though the thing that made them has learned it. Not that I didn't mind Middy playing translator.
I believe the WoL has hidden abilities that aren't known yet and also not hooked to the echo, I feel the echo is just a booster for our natural abilities and even without it because of how much we've been through we'd still be powerful enough to stand against most enemies.
a few places in the story point out that our character is an anomaly, mostly from hw scenes, even if somehow hydaelyn tricked us i'd bet our own inner being has been worked out enough to be its own beacon, which is what alot of our former enemies have been alluding to.
Given everything the story has given us, there is only one conclusion to make: That on top of the Echo and Blessing of Light, the WoL is ALSO an Allagan robot, thus once more making everything in Shadowbringers about the Allagans again.
That's the Blessing Of Light. That's why we had to collect 6 crystals in ARR. Originally it was our plot armor to protect us from things like Ultima and the Ascians, but over time it's grown into this deus ex machina type power that lets us do whatever the plot needs us to do.This makes me suspect there might be some very specific mechanic in mind behind how the WoL works (I don't think it's just the Echo at this point) and it allows for ridiculous strength but also very deliberate and particular limits. Ultimately,I know it boils down to this. Plot armor. We, the players, cannot die no matter what. Unless they shut the game down. Then everyone dies. That's the Blessing Of Light. I was just wondering if there was ever any in-universe explanation for our OP abilities.
