Blue mages are battle mages so why am i stuck behind mage gear...

Is this class meant to be a joke every skill is a stun also why the hell is final sting a death its supposed to bring your HP to 1 not kill you. Then on top of that almost all spells have a potency of 110-130 the only spell i have been using is 1000 needles. Can i have screw driver headbutt and burgeon please. Blu should also be added to all gear not just mage gear or is this a scam class because these job quests are making me hate blue mage not enjoy it like ffxi
Edit: RDM should also be added to dps gear

He has a point. I use a rapier. I'm not doing civilian one-on-one fencing to the death. I should use plate armor!

Final Fantasy XI is not the only Blue Mage that exists. There was no reason to believe that XIV would copy it. Blue Mage has had pretty varied forms throughout the series, including being an actual mage, not a melee fighter.

I do agree on 1000 Needles, though. There are a lot of spells to learn, but this is the only one you end up using most of the time.

Acorn Bomb - Thousand Needles, so things hold still long enough to die. Later on, Ram's Breath - Thousand Needles, the freeze lasts long enough for two casts. That's basically your leveling rotation.

If you've got somebody to res you and don't mind repairs, Final Sting is a powerful spell. If we are to compare with the FFXI's of it bringing your HP to 1 not 0, it was also a weak spell that was completely useless. Whilst the insta-death doesn't exactly make it sustainable.

But at level 28 mine does 2,500 damage once boosted. Though given its penalty, this makes it more situational.

Also, I find the 3 suicide spells amusing for novelty's sake.

if the only spell you're using is 1000 needles, then you REALLY have to learn how to play Blu in 14...

well it is really powerful at low level

Blue mages are battle mages? Maybe in some games, not so much FF V where they debuted or FF XIV.

I do kind of wish they could use more gear for glamour purposes though. In fact, I wish in general that with the possible exception of job artifact armor, you could glamour any piece you own.

FFV they were much more a battle class since they could use armor and swords.... FFVI, however.... Strago was full on mage and could barely equip anything heavier than a light jacket and rods. 100% mage class, so the precident for a devoted caster has existed since the early 90s

Problem really is that Blue Mage is different game to game with FFV letting them act more like the original red mage with light-medium armor and swords, VI changing it to full on mage and IX reinforcing that, then X letting your blue mage be whatever you as the player dictated. They just haven't really appeared often enough to have a set concept of "this is what a blue mage is" like other jobs in the series.
