On normal mode, this was the case, at least around launch; heroics were a different story. That might have changed with subsequent hotfixes and the proliferation of raid gear, though. When I was playing though, running places like HoO or Stonecore on heroic in all dungeon blues without a guild group was next to impossible.
First, on a sidenote, I refuse to run HOO or Stonecore, they are just too annoying, but most of the new heroics are clearable with people who are mostly epicced out (and no I don't mean PVP epics) and aren't retarded. Assuming everyone's DPS is good you should be able to zerg through everything. And yes I've quit, but even before I quit they did make alot of the heroics easier, the first boss to SFK comes to mind.

As far as other stuff besides running in circles, running BGs gets kind of useless after you have all the BG gear and I don't see a point to rolling an alt or doing dungeons seeing as it doesn't improve my character, but like you said, that's probably just me.

Keywords bolded. The nature of the game pretty much guarantees that you're going to end up with someone going full retard in your random heroics, though you can easily mitigate this by filling the vital roles (tank/healer) with guildies, effectively making it a guild run.

There's also arenas. So long as you're laid back about it and go in with a decent partner, doing 2s will allow you to get your PvP epics and a weapon without demanding too much of your time or patience, and can be pretty enjoyable. You can also run the old raids for a lark; at 85, you can probably solo a few of them, or at least duo, though it helps to have a goal in mind beforehand (e.g. warglaives).

Doubt you will get many normal responses, but nothing is wrong with WoW, its all opinion. I dont like WoW because I dont like the combat system, its boring to me. I also don't like that they put in stupid stuff like motorcycles and it seems like every patch (granted I haven't played since BC) is just more dungeons, another tier of gear, rinse and repeat what you have been doing over the last 5 years. Some people enjoy it, some don't.

But probably the main thing I dislike about WoW is the fact that it is so dominating in the market, that just about every MMO player out there compares every MMOs success to it and if said MMO doesn't have a million+ subs then it is apparently a failure.

Having played both FFXI and WoW for extended periods of time. Both games have pros and cons. Making any definitive statements about the "horribadness" of one game or another simply states the level of intellect various players have. The simply fact of the matter is, both games have succeeded to some extent and thus have redeeming qualities.

I vehemently disagree with Kilta's stance that the creation of WoW created a Pandora's Box and all these "terrible players" were released into a world full of candy and roses.

If the concept you are advocating can be explained in its entirety in an extremely brief manner it most likely is extremely stylized.

I believe that according to the Jeff Cannata vernacular, the word you're looking for is "terribad", which is the antonym of "fantasgreat", good sir.

That being said, this thread seems to have gone off the deep end. If WoW has any good features, like any other MMO, the devs on FFXIV should definitely look into it, and think about ways to incorporate it that make sense and work with Final Fantasy. I'm pretty sure the base aesthetic of the FFXIV UI is a product of this idea, with the the ability to move everything around, a (good)minimap and an action bar, etc.

The new raids are kind of hard, but none of the ones in wrath were.
WoW content can get boring for a lot of people not at the high end becuause it does get increasingly exclusive as the patches go on, mid ranged players generally dont' like doing area becuase they all feel they are better than the 40-50% win ratio they get and cry cause they are where their skill level places them. To be honest even at the high end it still gets boring running into a hard mode that takes a couple of weeks to kill. But that is the price you pay by having a system that is fluid and allows for quick retrys, it is a trade off you make. Only reason FFXI held me so firmly was I kept wanted to find a group of 20 ish hard core players that had the same time table I did, unfortunantly since I didn't speak JP that was unlikly so I muddled through a lot of the content and very slow speeds, (When you die in FFXI from someone pulling stuff in limbus or dyna by mistake it just took to long to get going again). But that is a trade off between the two games and they each have their advantages and disadvantages. WoWs system let you try, fail, get up and try agian quickly, as a result if you were solid you could blow through content quickly and be done with each epatch in 2-4 months or so, (thankfully a new content patch came out every 6 months or so). In FF there didn't appear to be any serious high end content and everyone was use to the slower pace that FF set so noone was in a really hurry to get anything done, and why would they when death was so painfull. As a result you never really got bored casue it took forever to get through content, but it did give you time to converse with the community and make connections and such. This was an advantage FFXI had over WoW, but I don't think you necessarly need to be cruel to your community to get them to talk to each other, but this might explain why it is harder to form relations in WoW, less death time together....... I just hope that FFXIV finds a better way to bring peopel together then a shared common grief that is the game you are trying to have fun with.

Here's what I didn't like about WoW, make of it what you will.

    1. no ability to use a controller
    2. graphics style that makes me want to barf
    3. quests feel like shopping lists
    4. a community filled with assholes and elitists (at least on icecrown)

Does everyone realize this will be a never ending thread of rants, arguments and debates?
