WoW was the first rp mmo I tried I'm more used to MUD rp. (which is better anyway) No one should ever make excuses for bad communities. If you found diamond in the rough grouds. Congratz, fact of the matter is it shou;d be like that. And when ffxi was first out well for me on ps2, it wasn't hard to find helpful ppl. I made alot of friends and a long term b/f after my first year. And was with my b/f up till recently.

In what dimension was FFXI harder than wow ?

And to answer the Op's question, there is nothing wrong with WOW, i guess different strokes for different folks.

Oh and BTW: Time sinks do not = hard
Might be easier to ask, in what ways is FF11 easier than WoW, would actually be doable without writing a 40 page write-up.
Almost every aspect of FF11 is harder than WoW, if you don't believe me, you have never played WoW or you have never played FF11, one of the 2. Until they nerfed CoP, there was nothing in WoW that even compared to the difficulty of just a set of missions in 1 of FF11's expansions.

And not found 1 i was willing to stick with.
You obviously never joined Andorhal, as I can attest to the fact that there's good people on there, assuming you avoid the shit people and shit guilds (damned if I can remember their names anymore) and look to the good people and good guilds, both of which are well-known on the server forums. Most of the people I've had good experiences with--in and out of my guild--were generally laid back and friendly. You'd have people shit-talking each other in trade, sure, but most of it was either just for laughs or to point out what a self-serving douche an admitted self-serving douche was and how amazing it was that people were still inviting him to their PUG raids, though I can understand how outsiders might be put off by it, seeing as they obviously don't have a clear understanding of the server's "(in)famous faces", and are therefore seeing things out of context.

As for RP research, the WoW forums are the last place you'd ever want to conduct serious research as to where the good RP communities are; you'd almost certainly want to try looking in one of the LJ groups or find a fansite dedicated to WoW RP and asking questions there.

Well I just played WoW today for the first time ever, also got 2 of my LS to sign up on free trials too and it was a lot of fun. FFXIV has spoiled me with graphics so at first I was like wtf lol. It feels like an online Fable to me atm, we spent all day running around doing quests got to level 12. I actually really like the quests, after hearing how bad they were supposed to be I was surprised at how much fun I found them.

I didn't like the battle system as much as I like FFXIV's though but it was ok I suppose. Have a few stupid restrictions on the trial though you can't send /tell's to someone unless you are on their friends list, also can't say anything in any other chat channel apart from party but you also can't invite anyone to a party either if your on the trial. In the end one of my friends somehow managed to get a random person to invite her to a party and then she explained and got him to invite us and then left just so we could play together. Seemed like a bit of a stupid restriction to put on it for a trial ><

Other than that though had a lot of fun on it today and it will keep me busy until the servers go back up, well as long as they go up within 10 days anyway ^^

People don't like it because of the simplicity the game brings since WotLK, it was a good, hard game back in the day, but the devs bend to everybody's will for the most part and hold your hand through the whole entire game, hell, even raid bosses they hold your hand. The community is also another thing, it is full of kids from 4chan.

The game has changed significantly since its release, especially with Cataclysm. What you're playing right now is not what most of the people here were playing when they played the trial and went "OMG THIS GAME SUX GO FFXI!". WoW even has FF-style cutscenes now, complete with voice acting (though FFXI and XIV have more of a cinematic flair to them).

The trial was an easy way for RMT to set up their advertising bots and spam people without having to drop $20 on a fresh copy (still can be; occasionally you'll see mass bodies spelling out a website name). However, none of the missing features are particularly necessary for getting a feel for the game.

Some ppl just shouldn't play mmo, or make them into something that isn't the purose of it. I was watching face off last episode and what 1 of thr ppl said holds true.

When you lose your way just for money, you lost what it really means.

MMo are losing their way for sake of money and pleasing the wrong crowd for mmo. We don't need high school drama in video games. More so from an age group that is 18-50. I never played Eq Eq2 or Eqoa. And what i knew of mmo when I started was community games, that you play with other players and fun. Sorry getting harassed over a play style isn't fun nor is being stalked its a waste of money.
The more people in a community the more chances you will have a troll or idiot. I think all MMO companies should reach out to a wide audience of people. FFXI main problem is its design is so blind to other kinds of gamers that years later they had to add a level sync to make up for the lack of people. Now they also watered down all other content and made xp double(among a lot of other things). On the other hand if you make things too easy your game will also fall easily(since WoW already filled that spot). WoW community attitude problem(in my opinion) comes from things being so easily obtained so if you don't have it its like "You must truly suck! They practically are handing these out to us! GTFO NOOB!"

I've said it plenty of times before. XIV just needs to hit that gray area between FFXI and WoW. Both of those games are fun for those play styles yet they go too far in 1 direction. It needs to give that fun for all yet a feeling of accomplishment feeling.

Yea I played WoW for 2 years including Cata and its a lot better now. Still not for me but it went back to making Hardcore players feel better at endgame instead of just focusing on Casuals. Dungeons are also a lot more fun now since it requires tactics to beat them. My main problem with WoW is it change classes around too much. I can never enjoy my class because soon as some say 'OMG THEY ARE OVERPOWERED!" There is a huge nerf bomb a patch later. A class can be balanced(or at least close enough) then a patch later we get nerfed again just to get "Fixed" another patch later...Repeat...

edit: I also hated how you couldn't get in a raid unless you had an achievement(unless in a guild) which is very stupid since you can only get it if you already beat it....

I actually played FFXI on release as i did WOW, there is nothing in FFXI that was "Harder" than Wow, there was the illusion that it was harder, grinding is not hard, is time consuming, but not hard The PVE content was not hard either, it was either a a big grind for items to spawn boms or at times Impossible. Like if in vanilla wow blizzard released the lich king with Wolkt stats, and told you "Hey here beat him up" with vanilla gear Thats not hard, thats just impossible
