i agree on the quests ... 1. there should still be caps on them even if they are just fetch quests, just give more exp according to level and hardness of the quest. i mean even fetch and kills in games like swtor if done in right level witch is only time worth doing other then for story, but w/e can be difficult. well kinda lol, but either way u'r not 1 shooting them at least like now. cap them to level like level sync.

other then that yeah mmo's can try to put more meaning into there side quests, if they can make the stories in there other offliners worth reading then they can do it for mmo's too. but all in all i just dont' think i'd read them either way...so.

but also hardness and uniqueness in each, and adding more of the elements we already have in game to them sounds great. like if we have ifrit and moogle fight already ...why not add things from those to the next sets of quests.

and em i know it's just beta but ....ffxi had crap tons of side bosses and i mean tons. all these quests needs side bosses to fight, ..and like i said above they would of been better in ffxi and in ffxiv if there are caps to them for apropriate hardness. but i know this wont ever happen anymore in mmo's ..anyway .but there still should be lots of bosses caped or not. hopefully 2.0 and beyond brings in a heaps full of them. ...and hopefully they not like in crappy mmo's where they all fight out the same but make them all different, and all need diff strategies to win.

also on the same subject i like how wotg did it ...they added a huge side of quest that are linked into the main story and u had to do them prior to moving on in the main quest. was very fun and a bunch of them had fun bosses. ...the most important part since most are farm/fetch and kills of normal stuff.

I think bad content is worse than no content at all. I also think it drives players away more. At least people can hope that good content is on the way, while bad content makes the developers look inept.

These side quests are garbage, and so are the events like the Dalmund events. Does anyone enjoy them? And if you do, what the hell is wrong with you to like something that terrible?

It is such a waste of development to put in quests just for the sake of having them, and if simply loading up on junk content is their idea of turning this game around for 2.0 I'm afraid it won't make the impact they are hoping.

I don't care about cutscenes or dialogue. But every quest in this game currently suffers from these 3 issues, they are:
    • Not challenging
    • Not unique/fun (which can substitute for challenging in some cases like it did in XI)
    • Not rewarding (though even if they were without the first two they'd still be unacceptable)

This makes them pointless. Even the main quests. The cutscenes are the only thing that make those bearable. But as content they are just terrible.

Well first of all I never asked for side quests. But why should people who did want them be happy with the junk side quests we have?

    "I'm Hungry!"
    "Here's a bowl of snot"
    "eww"
"OMG stop complaining! I guess I just can't win, you complain that you are hungry and you complain when I give you food. You are impossible!!!!!"

    That's you.

yeah i rather not have them then have crappy ones. once they made u can't go back i just wont do them and it's over. right now all i can see is them threading out new ones in btween all of these crappy ones that are good. so we have these fetch ones and then some good once worth doing. but dont' waist our time adding garbage for the sake of waisting our time with it.

If you want to defend the current quests be my guest. If not stop trolling people who have valid criticisms. I don't think anyone can defend the current state of quest content in this game though, and that is the point.

Until the community starts being more demanding we are going to get more and more crappy content like this, because it is easier to make. You aren't helping this game by simply telling people not to complain.

If people took the time to read them they'd know the reasons behind all of the objectives and they'd seem less boring.
I wouldn't mind this if they had interesting and innovative game play. You don't have to rethink the wheel for this. Just look at deus ex. Using the basic elements of the game they made it feel like you were doing something you hadn't done before.

You totally can. In the manner that Deus Ex innovated for a lot of quests without bringing mini games or anything. Deus Ex could have gone for "go kill X at Y", but they didn't. FFXIV shouldn't either. Game designers should find ways to keep the game play fresh using the elements they have at hand.

It made a lot of sense, man.
We asked for quests, yes. But not crappy quests.

If you are hungry and you ask for food, wouldn't you be entitled to complain if they threw a plate full of s**t at you? Or would you happily eat it? 'cause here, you are eating it and trolling those who aren't.
