I agree and yet disagree. From what I heard, after 1.21 there will be another player poll, so we can pretty much throw our say into more innovative side-quests. I do enjoy the side-quests for the lore, but that's what they have going for them. And I particularly don't mind that, as long as these guys are on track to something great (i.e. 2.0)

Now... FFXI... I really, really tried to love them. Back when I did play, I did love them. Then I played again, then thought about how agonizing many of the quests were in regards to traveling, drop rates, and just all out avoiding aggro from level 75 mobs. I spent a good amount of time dying, and dying was not fun in that game. Not in the least, especially when you have to travel far back to the location, even with a home point.

I remember spending quite literally five hours for that stupid sub job side quest. And five hours for that Kazham key quest. Nada but frustration. However, I did get a sense of achievement. I just didn't ever want to do them again.

For the sake of argument, what's the difference between FFXI and WoW quests?

I agree that the quests need to be more original come 2.0

The one thing I would absolutely want them to change for 2.0 however, are the introductory Grand Company quests. Having to do the exact same quests a total of 6 times is one of the worst design choices currently left in the game. I did these a couple of nights ago and by the end I wanted to play Russian roulette with a fully loaded handgun. It was monotonous and extremely aggravating and by the time I was done I just wanted to log off as soon as possible.

What this boils down to is to have the quests make sense and flow organically. Most of us (hopefully) use logic to play the game and the quests should be the same way. Useless fetch quests with descriptions saying "oh so and so is usually here in Limsa but is on a vacation in Gridania" are pointless and detrimental to the play experience and overall a waste of time.

I actually recently went through and did all the sidequests in each city one by one. I found them quite enjoyable, although it was clear that there were 3 sets of each quest (just with a different type of mob to kill and a different NPC). I really did enjoy the quests that added little stories about the origin of the 3 Grand company leaders, they had some nice cutscenes in them too, especially the one with Raubahn fighting in the colliseum.

If you bother to pay attention to them there are interesting points to the quest, like explaining a city's current situation, its interaction with the surrounding region and monsters etc. If you ask me these quests are fine, I'd like to have more of the same, if anything to improve on maybe some more action type cutscenes.. However I know this is a time-consuming project for such a small part of the game, so it's not really necessary, just nice to see.

This thread did not need to be made.

They need to throw more cutscenes in there sidequests and make those quests open up more quests after you completed them.

Also think game needs some sorta fame for unlocking more quests cus players go crazy over completing everything. Plus everyone should be doing the junk quests that reward nothing but credit.

I hope job quests have a lot of attention to them.

The cutscene to unlocking paladin was so bad in FFXI. Talk to the guy, get a water drop key item with no cutscene or anything. Go back to the guy, and he tells you you are a Paladin.

Not to sure how developers feel about timelines about knights and things related. Wasn't being knight'ed a very big deal back in the days of swords? Should there be atleast a crowd of fellow paladins watching this to confirm me becoming a paladin.

I later found out 2 years later that Ordelle's Cave is apparently the same name of the cave where Cecil went from Darknight to Paladin, which was cool.

Just hoping these quests aren't "ok you're a <job> now go away"

Pretty sure that was the Cave of Ordeals. Spelled differently, pronounced different, different meaning.

    I'm talking about originality.

I loved that pugilist quest in which you go around collecting money for the guild.
The one in which you had to get gil off the floor was awesome.

But the normal sidequests? Come on. They are all basically get X item, kill X quantity of monsters, etc.

I was playing Deus Ex today (By eidos, which is owned by SE as far as I know) and I had this sidequest, right? The game runs on unreal engine, yet its so original it tells you to go kill infiltrate this building, find this mobster, knock him out with your fists, then throw the body off the building to fake a suicide.

They took the game's basic elements and spinned them into something *really* original.
So yeah, I'd like to see the game designers' imagination shine in FFXIV's quests. 'Cause so far they are WoW-bad. FFXI had really moving, really original quests. They made you explore a lot, and travel through dungeons with puzzles and gates that required a certain amount of people to unlock doors or certain keys or to open certain gates...

And I'm not even asking that. I'm not saying rip off XI (although you totally should). I understand that so far there aren't many zones to work with. But I don't think its even about that. Its about spinning things so its not so obvious its a bare bones gather/kill quest.
QQ Moar. All MMOs are like this. I see this is your first MMO you've ever played?

While online games have many different things about them , good quests are one thing that can be a strength for the game.
I am looking to get the warrior once patch downloads so be intrested see what that is like.
I dont mind simple quests they done so far but my hope is that when 2.0 come out we start to see more quest like for example (from final fantasy 11) A timely vist and quests on that level which had alot of story , however some people dont like all that so a balance of both types would be good.
