If people took the time to read them they'd know the reasons behind all of the objectives and they'd seem less boring.
I wouldn't mind this if they had interesting and innovative game play. You don't have to rethink the wheel for this. Just look at deus ex. Using the basic elements of the game they made it feel like you were doing something you hadn't done before.

You totally can. In the manner that Deus Ex innovated for a lot of quests without bringing mini games or anything. Deus Ex could have gone for "go kill X at Y", but they didn't. FFXIV shouldn't either. Game designers should find ways to keep the game play fresh using the elements they have at hand.
