You know what would happen though. Lots and lots of Carbuncles walking around Ul'dah.I've been replaying some old FF games lately and one thing I noticed in common with a lot of the summoners in those games is that the summoner actually gets replaced with the summon in the party.
I thought it would be a cool concept for FFXIV if when a summoner summoned something, your character disappears and the player gains control of the summon instead. Then if the summon dies or you dismiss the summon, the character reappears.
Each summon would have their own sets of combos and abilities on the action bar, and the player would have full control of the summon including movement.
Make summoning have a long cooldown, so you can't just resummon if the summon is defeated. But you can keep the summon active as long as you want as long as it doesn't die. If you dismiss the summon, the cooldown is shorter though.
For the record I'm completely ok with this.
