If I'm not mistaken they're just using a small portion of it for the lighting and shading effects. I could be wrong myself, but that's the last I heard/seen of it.
They've never said that. People working on Luminous have worked on the new engine though, offering technical assistance.
Shaders and lighting use the same technology from what I've understood. Also looks like it, both are mind-blowing in the pics.
Unfortunately, no. They "borrowed" a large amount of the staff that worked on the Luminous Engine to work on the FFXIV 2.0 engine, but it is by no means the same engine. Several chunks of code have been cannibalized from Luminous, but the FFXIV 2.0 engine doesn't even officially have a name.
I heard they where basicly restructuring the old engine to better fit an MMO.
I can't imagine starting an MMO engine from scratch would take only a year and a half.
Engines don't actually take that long to make especially if you're designing one specifically for one game when said game is already produced. Borrowing toolsets from another could speed it up though.
Ok cool.
I hope they produce some pics and clips from 2.0 work again soon. I love the last one but at a year old i was really hoping E3 would give me something to knaw on for a while. Can't wait. Need to feed my graphics addiction. >.<
