A group of summoner can summon them too. They need only be in a free company, kill a primal and with some luck gain the primal summoning item. After summoning they need to kill him again, of course.
We will have summons just not the gods, we'll have things like Carbuncle
We can only hope SE is smart enough to not try and just give us elementals. I Fear However they will try to short change us and it will lead to a massive forum crap throwing contest between the do want traditional summoner vs the do not want anything remotely related to any FF game.
Lesser( Small) Summon= Smaller Version of the Primal. It won't be some Elemental ( though I can only assume they will have elemental summons like in FFXI but who knows on that.less·er (lsr)
adj. A comparative of little.
1. Smaller in amount, value, or importance, especially in a comparison between two things:
I've been replaying some old FF games lately and one thing I noticed in common with a lot of the summoners in those games is that the summoner actually gets replaced with the summon in the party.
I thought it would be a cool concept for FFXIV if when a summoner summoned something, your character disappears and the player gains control of the summon instead. Then if the summon dies or you dismiss the summon, the character reappears.
Each summon would have their own sets of combos and abilities on the action bar, and the player would have full control of the summon including movement.
Make summoning have a long cooldown, so you can't just resummon if the summon is defeated. But you can keep the summon active as long as you want as long as it doesn't die. If you dismiss the summon, the cooldown is shorter though.

Hey now! That's actually a pretty dang cool and well thought of concept for a class/job. Sadly, because it's such a cool idea by default, that means we will never see it.I've been replaying some old FF games lately and one thing I noticed in common with a lot of the summoners in those games is that the summoner actually gets replaced with the summon in the party.

You know what would happen though. Lots and lots of Carbuncles walking around Ul'dah.I've been replaying some old FF games lately and one thing I noticed in common with a lot of the summoners in those games is that the summoner actually gets replaced with the summon in the party.

For the record I'm completely ok with this.
Some more rep post on 2.0 this week. As well as exciting news from E3!
XIVpads.com is doing excellent work following E3 so I added a link to their page in the OP.
2.0 combat still same crap as in 1.0? Not nice stuff like in terra/blade & soul/pso2?
