Well, this penalty would be time(as you said). In 2.0 I'm sure we are gonig to have different mods of transportation, so why not? I even made a thread about trains(transportation) If anima is soo important to people, they need to re think ...their levels ....of importance? Idk.
"Any kind of death penalty should, in my mind, only result in lost time"
Ya, I don't like anima, but people do, so I'm trying to figure out a way, where people don't rely on anima. While trying to make it work with the game itself(lore and what not)
Yes, but only beyond a threshold of many consecutive jumps. The safe number of jumps are within that 100 anima allowance. The time you have to rest is the time required to regenerate anima. My point is that there's no lore reason to place status debuffs on characters that are low on anima, only on those that fall below zero, which is impossible in-game.

I feel you're going about this the wrong way though. You're trying to reduce dependence on anima while offering no alternative. You can say you've suggested other ways, but there are none in this thread. Anyone reading this would just see you trying to make their lives harder in a game they're trying to enjoy. It's fine if you want to phase anima out. To do this though, you absolutely have to present ways of replacing it that don't result in greatly increased inconvenience for players. You have to make it redundant.

Also, I made a few edits to my first post that you might have missed. To sum up what I said, it's about balancing punishment. Shutting down the game whenever you die is a time cost, but not a reasonable one. Removing an entire travel option, similarly, is not reasonable. At most, you should sit out for weakness and spend time running back to where you were. You were sent back to start, but your 6 sided die wasn't replaced with a coin.

You were just beat enough to lose consciousness ... your gear would suffer wear and tear. More common sense then lore.

    My sentiments exactly.

As I've said before, I die for fun in ifrit(sliding is a good way to go) That causes sometimes a loss, but really it is fun.

PRETTY SURE ifrit doing hell fire should "wear and tear" your gear more than his slash -.- yet I would lose more durability dieing from that then living from hell fire AND getting beat up some more, with out dieing.... YA COMMON SENSE NEEDS TO TRY AGAIN!

While shame is a solid reason for many people to avoid death, its not something that applies to everyones logic, while a death penalty should. Otherwise what reason is there for death? A minute time sink? How about we just dedicate a server to the casual players, everyone can have their god mode, kill things quickly, reach max level cap within a few days and be content with thier hollow achievements(Yeah, I'm a hater.) People who are against a death penalty obviously are not up to the challenge it presents.

Well it would certainly be annoying if every time you encountered Hellfire your clothes burned to shreds and you had to make a new one.. as usual the happy medium is a pretty thin line.

Theories, precautions, possibilities... Why not to think that, lorewise (what you're worried about), this is not tested nor documented so there's no need to change this at all?

Gear suffers damage when monsters or enemies are smacking it with weapons or blunt appendages. Go hit your wall with a hammer and you'll see each swing causes more damage you'll have to replace. There's the logic behind the armor durability.

As for the whole lose anima when being KO'd, while I completely see where you're coming from based on the lore, I can tell you that I am about the only person I know who ever has any of this stuff to port anywhere (most people I know are down to the 20s or less). I conserve my anima unless people are waiting on me, which I think is actually the whole point of the system... it lets you get somewhere quickly so your friends or group don't have to wait so long. As is I think anima recharge rates are actually slow, the only reason they don't 'feel' it right now is because there's barely anything to teleport around and do.

I have to agree that I feel penalized enough by a weakened status and my loss of time / potentially letting a group or friends down. Maybe some people's pride isn't hurt by it... but I know mine is. I just don't think we need to be kicked in the ass more for dieing than we already are.

The weird thing is when I played 11 I do not remember a single person who ever acted like they were happy to de-lvl or have to go get an exp buffer. It only seems like now that people suddenly think it was the greatest idea ever... when they're not being subjected to it.

So you want people to not use their anima, so what is it purpose then ?

    .. Absurd ..

How about we send all those who want a strict death penalty to a hardcore server, because the chances are there are less of you and more casual people who will play this game. (although I don't agree with you on death penalty I do agree with the speed of levelling)

Death penalty is nothing more than an obnoxious layer added to a game, its unnecessary.

If you feel you need to be penalised for dying go play Demon Souls
