Who are the Scions? (Spoilers)

Or rather, what is the criteria to be a Scion lucky enough to be whisked away to worlds unknown.

Basically, at the end of 4.4 and 4.5 part 1, a good portion of the main Scions have been put to sleep, Thancred, Y'shtola, Urianger, Alphinaud, and Alisaie. But what about other main Scions like Lyse or Krile or us, though we know why not us.

At first glance it looked like those who have trained in Sharlayan. Lyse, for all her involvement, wasn't trained like Yda. But then we see that Krile is still up and about. Someone made the suggestion that only those who have interacted with the Warriors of Darkness have been taken, which lines up, but why specifically them?

You will notice that with Alisaie and Alphinaud added to the others, the 5 NPCs that were shown to represent the Trust System are now all asleep, that can't be a coincidence.

A likely theory in my opinion is that we'll be visiting the shard world of the warriors of darkness (the first) which we know has been overwhelmed by light.

The actions of the ascians in 4.5 pt.2 will likely be the catalyst for another calamity which Koji fox has stated causes a tear in the fabric of reality (for lack of a better word) which essentially breaks down the barriers briefly between worlds. This is what happened at the end of 1.0 when the voidsent were showing up en masse. At that point it was the barrier to the 13th shard (the void) which was broken.

So this time it looks like the barrier to the 1st is broken and the beings born of the light are breaking through to the source.

It seems like the story will lead us to join up with the warriors of darkness on the 1st in order to stop the flood of light that is leaking through to the source.

It's likely that the scions were called ahead of us and have already arrived there. So at least at the moment the reason why trust NPCs will only be usable in the 5.0 MSQ dungeons is likely because they all take place on the 1st shard.

(In other words, it wouldn't make sense lore wise for anyone else to be helping us, since no one else can reach the 1st shard. Additionally it wouldn't make sense to be able to go into other dungeons until we've made it out of the 1st shard.)

There's speculation that the "Child of Light", from the Amano art and the girl with Thancred in the teaser, is Minfillia or some avatar of Hydaelyn. That would provide a solid chain from the Caller to the sleeping Scions.

Don't forget so far all of the Scions that have been taken are non echo members and up until this patch we didn't know that the voice had effected Alphinaud. We also didn't know that at least up to this last attack Krile hadn't experienced the voice yet. As if I recall the first attack it's been assumed we only heard the voice because of having the echo. I say this last attack as she was off screen when it happened and could have been effected now that she's obviously in range. Sadly we won't know until late March.

I just wanted to add that Krile has interacted with the Warriors of Darkness. She is with the player, Alphinaud, and Y'shtola when the WoD attack them at the Gnath colony in 3.1.

Note, all the Scions that have been taken, have been into the Aetherial Sea.

Y'shtola when there when she escaped from the banquet and used her spell to take her there until we asked the elements to find her.

Urianger, Thancred, Alisaie and Alphinaud all went there after we fought the Warrior's of Darkness. When we spoke with Hydaelyn and Minfillia before the WoD's went home with Minfillia.

i thought the warriors of darkness when they went with minfilia back to the 1st were accepting death n returned to their lifestream effectively meanin they are dead n not coming back is that not the case or have i misunderstood that?

You have not misunderstood that. The Warriors of Darkness are dead in every sense of the word. We see a similar scene at the end of the Ivalice raids to boot.
