    Blue Mage and the value of Spell Speed

    Anyone else looking forward to see how much impact this stat can have?

    Some thought's I've seen -
    BLU has already been indicated to be at risk of Mana issues with the use of the heavy hitting spells that would have longer cooldowns. Adding spell speed to that equation, regardless of if it impacted the cooldown of the heavy spells, would further exacerbate this problem. May still be fun to play with this for a little bit anyways, if it does have the effect of reducing large cooldowns.

    People think INT is really important on a Caster that wears Caster gear. I wont argue this point, but Caster gear already has all of it's INT stat capped out. Also, don't be buying out INT materia. You can't meld primary stat, and 130 gear doesn't have materia slots anyways.

    Other Substats maybe applicable to Blue Mage.
    Determination
    Critical Hit
    Direct Hit
    In case you aren't aware, the entire spell book has already been spoiled, and a lot of it indicates that many spells will have fixed ratio damage, such as Bomb's Self Destruct doing an explicit 99% of target's maximum HP as damage. This leaves me wondering exactly how useful these three substats will even be to begin with.
    That being said, would VIT melds aid in surviving the use of a spell like that?

    I doubt it will have much of an impact. The main stat you want for Blu is INT as this will increase the effect of Blu spells.

    It was mentioned, that BLU has additional affinity for INT scaling, so it's essentially, stack INT, INT and more INT.

    (Also, buy up all the level 50/60 INT materia from the marketboard while it's still dirt cheap before everyone cotton's on to the fact that BLU wants to stack a whole heap of INT)

    Spell Speed is always good IMO for very slight cooldown reduction. Int = Attack stat but the gear you get will only be lvl 50 anyway so honestly I don't think it really matters.

    Since I think with the way they are going Blue Mage is always going to be half an expansion behind everyone else.

    It will depend on a few things -

    1) Whether or not all / most of their damaging spells are on the GCD
    2) The cooldown / quantity of available damaging buffs, and how much or little they impact the value of SpS
    3) Whether or not they have an MP dump for value, i.e. if you can convert excess MP into more powerful spells, then SpS cuts down on your chances to do that

    I'd guess that there will be enough drawbacks to SpS that you won't want to prioritize it over other substats. But, it also remains to be seen whether Det will only show up in reduced values on the job set like other level 50 stuff, and I'm not wholly familiar with whether crit has an equivalent level of scaling (i.e. can you still hit +23%).

    So you can meld...int...onto items that already come with max int?

    Like all classes you'll prolly want crit otherwise you could run into some mana issues with too much ss.

    Seeing some funny comments about buying INT materia to meld.
    We're wearing Caster gear anyways, which is already capped on that stat. You can't overmeld that. INT's gonna be capped out anyways, so looking at substats is all we can do with it.

    Also, let's not forget that you can't meld 130 gear.
