If you don't raid savage then you can just ignore positionals anyway. It's not a requirement to get through other content easily. Just play for fun and not worry about min/max. But those who enjoy the challenge shouldn't have it dumbed down to cater to the more casual players.

I found it annoying on Ninja, but I'm quite happy with positionals on Sam.

You don't crash your dps by missing them. Infact, if you just stand in one spot, you'll generally hit half of them by default. But aiming to hit as many as you can rewards you with that little bit more damage and adds a skillcap.

You can just about beat SSS o12s ignoring positionals as Sam. It's just at the right point to look at as a bonus for hitting, rather than a loss for missing. Maybe other classes need to aim for this mark.

In 1.x (1.23b specifically) I enjoyed positionals, they were fitting because the battle system had a good pace for me, now they just feel like a hindrance. I know some prefer them and that's just fine. As for me..I wouldn't miss them if they went.

Without positionals, you'd need to buff all melee DPS jobs. Monk in particular as everything on him has positionals and some special effects such as guaranteed crit on the back during bootshine. Also I feel like it'd make it just as boring as playing a tank minus the aspect of mitigating your damage properly which would make them the overall most bland jobs in the game. They would need more than buffs but they'd need another quirk to compensate and to make for more engaging gameplay.

There. Everything yellow is the Rear. Everything blue is the Flank (it's early morning so it's not as blue as it should be and I didn't feel like waiting around for the sun to move. Sue me). Even including the bits inside the hitbox. You should be standing on the border between Flank and Rear and taking only a step or two to move between them. That also makes it very easy to move with the target if it turns. You won't always be able to hit them, but a few misses aren't going to shatter your DPS if you're playing well otherwise (and True North just got a nice CD reduction).
Why do you assume that people not liking positionals have a comprehension issue? I think everyone speaking about it in this thread knows how it works.
If someone doesn't like eating broccolis, explaining them what broccolis are won't suddenly make them like it.

Besides, your picture shows a target dummy that never moves. This is very different in actual combat when bosses spin faster that freaking beyblades.

I play the laziest positional melee dps and even I wouldn't want them scrapped entirely. That said, they need find a way to make all the other jobs like samurai where they aren't losing huge potency chunks if they can't hit their positionals. The positionals do make doing stuff out in the world a huge pain. Not that there's much to do there I suppose.

I think that if they don't get rid of positionals they need to make them more apparent on the targeting circle for new players and to let people know how little they need to move.

As is I just imagine a big X on the circle.

Skill expression for both melees and tanks makes the game spicier, positionals are fine the way they are.

Stop trying to make DPS brain dead. Positionals are fine.

Except that they're not really. They may not be completely broken and unplayable, but they're not ideal either.

Positionals are an interesting idea, but the reality is that they're often more annoying than fun or challenging. Boss has back AoEs, or spends a lot of time moving, or randomly turning, or whatever? That's not skill, just frustration.
