Most summoner spells are instant, well, many of them are classified as "abilities" but those are just spells not on the gcd.
And while black mages have to hard cast everything normally, swift cast and triple cast lets them cast one and three spells while moving on a one minute cooldown for each buff, which lets them do it preeeetty often.
Then red mages, well they're all about chaining instant cast spells together.
Likewise, True North is a 90s cooldown and lasts 15 seconds, which is like 6 gcds which covers a lot of the static spinning that bosses do. I see positionals as a trade off to being able to move and still hit something while casters would have to be pretty good at their job to cast near 100% of the time without interruption during movement mechanics. And in cases like Seiryu where you gotta do some left/right nonsense, casters need to move too/slidecast or use utility so missing a positional here seems like a fair trade off with True North existing.

I mean I guess they could remove positionals, just add those Byakko EX balls to every boss. Dang I hate those things.

Those are not even remotely the same thing.

Dragoon here from the line of Daniel. I think better players deserve better damage.

DRAP*: No. The game is a laughably easy cakewalk as it is. At least let some semblance of player input and complexity remain instead of consolidating and simplifying everything. At this rate, a year from now you will be able to do anything by pressing one button. Heal most injured party member? Press button. Tank full fight? Press button and wait.

Correction: Melee doesn't have a radius to circle around.

The red target circle is merely a guideline that displays the boss' relative size. It's actually more important to determining when you'll go out of melee range than it is to hitting positionals. In reality, the boss has no actual size. Maybe it's a single pixel? I'm not really sure. The positional hotboxes just extend in a cone out from the boss' center, and the target circle just shows you a snapshot of that at a particular distance. You can still hit positionals when you're inside the ring. In fact, you can still hit them when your avatar looks like it's in the direct center of the boss hitbox. It's just harder to determine which side you're on. If you get used to it, you can use that center point to quickly cross to the other side of the boss and land positionals, or avoid positional boss attacks while barely moving. This is extremely useful for everyone from casters to tanks, and also makes healers happy.

A sniper class that required large distances from the boss would struggle with difficult positioning as was mentioned. One could give them BLM-esque low-cooldown dash skills to reposition on a whim, or have their rotations always have them running in a circuit around the boss.

But personally, I would hate that. Because as a healer, I know that job would miss almost all of my AoE heals. It would certainly not be there for things like Asylum or Cure III.
